KINGSTON, Ont. (Feb. 21, 2024) – Former Queen's Men's Hockey forward
Jonathan Yantsis signed a professional contract with the ECHL's Greenville Swamp Rabbits, the team announced Wednesday.
Yantsis (Markham, Ont.) recently completed his third season with the Gaels, helping the team clinch an OUA Playoffs spot after a program record-tying 19 wins in the regular season.
Yantsis finished the regular season tied for second in the OUA with 18 goals and tied for fifth in the conference in points with 37.
"Jonathan completed his best season to date with the Program," said Queen's Men's Hockey Head Coach
Brett Gibson. "He came in as one of the top offensive recruits to Queen's and he did not disappoint, earning an All-Star nod and a gold medal at the 2023 FISU games. We worked hard to develop his game so he would have success in pro hockey and we wish him all the best."
Also during his time at Queen's, Yantsis represented Canada at the FISU Games in early 2023, helping the team win gold, and played on the U SPORTS All-Stars team that competed against Canada's World Juniors squad late last year.
Yantsis was also named an OUA East Division All-Star after the 2021-22 season.
A former Kitchener Rangers player and 50-goal scorer in the OHL, Yantsis finished his Queen's career with 36 goals and 39 assists in 66 regular season games.
Yantsis will join former Gaels teammate
Luke Richardson, with the goalie having signed a pro deal with Greenville last year.
