Kingston, Ont. (Oct. 26, 2024) – Queen's Men's Rugby extended their winning streak and advanced in the OUA playoffs with a decisive 67-5 victory over the Brock Badgers in their quarterfinal matchup at Nixon Field. The Gaels, displaying both offensive power and disciplined defense, now look forward to an OUA semifinal clash against the second-seeded Western Mustangs on November 2.

The Gaels set the tone from the outset, with Eric Godden (Applied Science) crossing the try line just seven minutes into the game, and Marcus D'Acre (Economics) adding the conversion to make it 7-0. Queen's offensive momentum was unstoppable in the first half, with Connor Hay (History) scoring consecutive tries in the 13th and 21st minutes, widening the Gaels' lead to 17-0.

Relentless on attack, the Gaels continued to pile on the points. Dan Svoboda (Kinesiology) and Trekker James (Psychology) both scored, and D'Acre followed with a flawless series of conversions, showcasing his accuracy and consistency as kicker. By halftime, Queen's led 38-0.

The second half brought more of the same, with Matt Carroll (Arts & Science) crossing the line in the 41st minute, immediately followed by another successful conversion by D'Acre. Owen Lee (Commerce) added another try in the 44th, solidifying Queen's lead. Although Brock responded with a try in the 55th minute, it was their only score of the game.

Queen's concluded the scoring in style, with Michael Gyles (Applied Science) and Noah Gittens (Kinesiology) adding tries in the final stages, securing the 67-5 win. D'Acre's sharp kicking proved invaluable, as he converted seven of Queen's tries.

With a dominant display on both sides of the ball, Head Coach John Lavery's team looks poised for a deep playoff run. The Gaels will now turn their focus to Western in what promises to be an intense semifinal on November 2, as they seek a spot in the OUA Finals.
