Brett Gibson named Associate Coach for Canada Men's Hockey team at 2025 FISU Games

KINGSTON, Ont. (Oct. 22, 2024) - Queen's Men's Hockey Head Coach Brett Gibson will represent Canada at the 2025 FISU Winter World University Games next year, serving as Associate Coach of the Men's Hockey team.

Gibson will serve as Associate Coach on Head Coach Mark Howell's staff.

Gibson is in his 18th year behind the bench for Queen's Men's Hockey. This past season, Gibson was named head coach of the 2023 U SPORTS Men's Hockey All-Stars that competed at Canada's Junior Team Selection camp, splitting their two-game series. Gibson tied the Gaels' franchise record with 19 wins in 2023-24, also set in the 2017-18 and 2018-19 season.

This will be the fourth time Gibson has represented Canada at the FISU Games. Gibson was named to Team Canada's coaching staff for the 2022 FISU Winter Universiade, and served as Head Coach for Canada at the 2017 Winter Universiade, leading the team to a bronze medal. Gibson was also named to the coaching staff for the 2021 Winter Universiade, which was cancelled due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

In the spring of 2019, Gibson was named the head coach of the Canada National Men's Under-18 Team for the 2019 IIHF U18 World Championship in Sweden and led Canada to a fourth place finish at the tournament. Gibson helped Queen's capture their first Queen's Cup championship since 1981 in the 2018-19 season as well.

Queen's Men's Hockey Equipment Manager Jamie Nicholl-Carne will also represent Canada at the FISU Games as Men's Hockey Equipment Manager.

The FISU Games will take place from January 13-23 in Torino, Italy.
