Queen's Women's Squash
Queen's Women's Squash co-hosted the final tournament of the Jesters League this past weekend alongside Queen's Men's Squash. Flexibility was the key to the weekend with dicey travel across Ontario and Quebec.
Rookie Julia Nash built the team spirit early on Saturday by painting tricolour flags on the faces of players and coaches.
The Gaels met Western for the first time this season and handily swept the Mustangs 7 to love. On Sunday morning, the same result repeated vs. Laurier. On Sunday afternoon, the women had an opportunity to play an exhibition match using eight players against McGill. The Gaels played some brilliant squash and won 7-1. It was a great way to cap the weekend off.
Queen's Men's Squash
Queen's Men's Squash participated this past weekend in the second Crossover tournament of the season in the Jesters University Squash League. The tournament was hosted by Queen's with ten teams participating.
Queen's first played Western on Saturday and lost that encounter by five matches to two. Despite the overall loss, all the matches were keenly contested and the two victories were a notable achievement. This was followed by a 7-0 win over Laurier. On Sunday, Queen's played Guelph and came away with a 5-2 win.
The standout for Queen's was Akasham Rajagopaul, who came to Queen's to study medicine following a stellar squash career at Western.
The Gaels will finish the season with the OUA Squash Championships to be held at the Whites Oaks Spa and Resort in St. Catherines, February 9-11, 2024.
