Queen's Water Polo earns league medals on championship weekend

Queen's Women's and Men's Water Polo were in Ottawa, Ont. this weekend to challenge for their league championships, hosted by the Ottawa Gee-Gees.

The Gaels Women's team won their second National Collegiate Water Polo (NCWP) silver medal in the last three years with a 17-5 loss to the Toronto Varsity Blues in the final. That followed a comfortable 9-5 semi-finals win over the Gee-Gees on Saturday.

The weekend results followed the hosting of a quarter-finals Friday at ARC Pool that saw the team earn a 17-1 victory over the Guelph Gryphons.

In the Ottawa game, it was captain Ally Rowe leading the way with five goals. Three of these came in the first quarter as the Gaels jumped out to a 3-0 lead.

In the final, it was rookie Sami Lee that led the way with a hat trick. Also providing solid defense was goalie Jess Chilton, who stopped a pair of penalty shots.

Scorers for the weekend were Rowe and Lee with eight each, Ryleigh Kaye with four, Sarah Chapman with three, and doubles to Ari Wilson and Sophie Keith Brown.

Ally Rowe and Sami Lee were named to the NCWP All-star team at the championship.
