KINGSTON, Ont. (Nov. 23, 2023) - Five Queen's Football players were named U SPORTS All-Canadians at the U SPORTS All-Canadian banquet Thursday night in Kingston, Ont.
Running back
Jared Chisari and defensive tackle
Darien Newell were named U SPORTS First Team All-Canadians, while offensive linemen
Ryan Berta and
Evan Floren, and H-Back
Niklas Henning were named U SPORTS Second Team All-Canadians.
Chisari (Naples, ME)Â broke Queen's Football's single-season rushing yards record, surpassing Mike Giffin's 1,157 yards from the 2007 season, with an incredible total of 1,178 yards on the ground and seven touchdowns. Chisari, who was also named an OUA Offensive Player of the Week during the 2023 season, also broke Queen's Football's single-game record for touchdowns with five against the York Lions.
Newell (Brampton, Ont.), who started the season playing in the U SPORTS East-West Bowl in the spring, earned a second straight OUA All-Star nod after finishing the season 23 tackles (20 solo, six assisted), 4.5 sacks, and eight tackles for a loss.
Berta (Hamilton, Ont.), and Floren (Ancaster, Ont.) were part of an offensive line that paved the way for the conference's leading rushing offence, with Queen's finishing atop the OUA with 1,938 rushing yards and 20 touchdowns in the regular season.
Henning (Milton, Ont.) was a force in both the run and pass game at the H-Back position for Queen's, and finished the season with five receptions for 79 yards and a touchdown.
