KINGSTON, Ont. (July 25, 2022) - Queen's Men's Hockey announced Monday former team captain
Patrick Sanvido is joining the team's coaching staff ahead of the 2022-23 season.
Sanvido (Guelph, Ont.) is joining
Brett Gibson's coaching staff as an assistant coach after five years with the program as a player.
"Pat has a great passion for the game of hockey and the Men's Hockey Program at Queens," said Gibson. "I had the privilege of coaching Pat for five years and look forward to mentoring him in coaching as I believe he has a future in it, should he want to coach long-term. This was a very quick and easy hire as Pat will instill the culture and be a great mentor for the incoming players"
The defenceman finished last year with four points while helping the Gaels finish first in the OUA East Division with a 17-1-1 record in the regular season.
In four seasons with Queen's, Sanvido recorded nine goals and 17 assists and helped the team capture the Queen's Cup in 2019.
"I couldn't be happier coming back as a coach," Sanvido said. "I love this program and the group of guys that we have in place here, I needed to come back as in my eyes we have unfinished business.
"Getting the opportunity to learn from a coach like
Brett Gibson and
Ben Munroe is invaluable, especially on a national championship caliber team. I do foresee myself pursuing a career in coaching and I am so grateful that Gibby has given me this opportunity to get coaching experience at such a high level of hockey. It will definitely be a little different being on the other side of the coaches door, but I could not be more excited to get things going when camp starts in September."
The Gaels open the 2022-23 OUA regular season schedule Friday, Oct. 14 against the UQTR Patriotes. For the full team schedule, click
