Queen's Football alumnus Jim Young inducted into Hamilton Sports Hall of Fame

Queen's Football alumnus Jim Young will be inducted into the Hamilton Sports Hall of Fame later this month.

Young played for Queen's from 1962-64 and was an All-Star in each of his three seasons with the team. The Hamilton, Ont. native was also named an All-Canadian in 1963 and earned the Johnny Evans MVP Trophy in 1964. A running back, Young had a natural talent for scoring, and scored touchdowns the first time he was given the ball in his first three games at Queen's.

Young was the first player from Queen's to be drafted into the National Football League, and played two seasons with the Minnesota Vikings.

Young returned to Canada two years later after the Vikings traded him to the B.C. Lions in what still stands as the only trade between an NFL team and a Canadian Football League team. Young played 10 seasons with the Lions and had his No. 30 jersey retired by the team. He was named the CFL's Most Outstanding Player in 1970 and 1972, and was named a CFL All-Star in 1972 and a Western Conference All-Star in 1969 and 1972.

Young is an inducted member in the Canadian Football Hall of Fame, Canada's Sports Hall of Fame, the B.C. Lions Football Hall of Fame, and the B.C. Sports Hall of Fame.

Young is also a member of the Queen's Football Hall of Fame.

Young will be inducted into the Hamilton Sports Hall of Fame on Wednesday, Oct. 26. For more information about the event, click here.
