Former Queen’s Gaels student-athlete Matt Mullins, Canada finish eighth in men’s Rugby Sevens at Olympics

Former Queen's Gaels student-athlete Matt Mullins and Team Canada finished eighth in men's Rugby Sevens at the Tokyo Olympic Games.

Canada finished pool play with a 1-2 record after opening the tournament with losses to Great Britain (24-0) and Fiji (28-14) before beating Japan 36-12. 

They lost to New Zealand in the quarterfinals (21-10) before falling to the United States (21-14) and Australia (26-7) in placing games.

Mullins (Belleville, Ont.) played in all six of Canada's games at the Olympics, with three starts. 

Fiji won the gold medal while New Zealand took home the silver medal and Argentina captured the bronze medal at the Olympics tournament.

Mullins was part of the undefeated 2013 Gaels team that won the OUA championship before leaving to join Canada's U20 and Sevens teams.
