Queen's Gaels' Steve Snyder wins Frank Tindall Trophy as U SPORTS Football Coach of the Year

Queen's Football Head Coach Steve Snyder has been named the U SPORTS Football Coach of the Year.

U SPORTS unveiled their major award winners and All-Canadians for the 2021 Football season Thursday ahead of the Vanier Cup, hosted by Laval University. Queen's Football running back Rasheed Tucker was named a First Team All-Canadian and defensive end Anthony Federico was named a Second Team All-Canadian Thursday.

In just his third year and second season with the Gaels, Snyder led Queen's to the 113th Yates Cup against the Western Mustangs.

The Gaels won the OUA East with an undefeated record and finished the regular season ranked No. 3 in the U SPORTS Top 10.

Queen's finished the regular season with the second-ranked scoring offence, averaging 28.7 points per game, and the top-ranked scoring defence, averaging 7.3 points against per game.

Snyder was also named the David 'Tuffy' Knight Award winner as OUA Coach of the Year for the 2021 season.

"I've worked with some great assistant coaches in my time as a coach at this level, some really special ones, including our current staff. I'd like to thank you guys all for everything you do because the 2021 coaching staff of the year award goes to Queen's Football. A group that takes pride in the process of football, working together and enjoying every moment. What a special group," Snyder said after being named the David 'Tuffy' Knight Award winner.

"To our Athletic Director Leslie Dal Cin, thank you for believing in me and giving me this opportunity. When we met, I knew right away that you believed in me and that this was going to be a great fit. I learn everyday from your incredible work ethic.

"Our players, the true award winners here. Just a tremendous group of young men from across the country. Truly high-character individuals who care deeply about the tradition of our program and are working hard to cement their own legacy. It's an honour to serve in a leadership role here at Queen's Football for you guys."
