Queen's Football finished first in the OUA standings, securing a first round bye and spot in the semifinals, after a 25-17 road win over the McMaster Marauders Saturday afternoon in Hamilton, Ont.
Tickets for the semifinal on Saturday, Nov. 1 at 1 PM Richardson Stadium are ON SALE NOW! After a bye next week, Queen's Football will host the lowest remaining seed in the semifinal matchup, with a spot in the Yates Cup on the line.
Tyler Mullan (Arts & Science) continued his excellent season for Queen's, finishing with six for six on field goals, setting a Queen's Football single game record, including a long of 45 yards. Along with the extra point on Queen's lone touchdown of the game, Mullan scored 19 of Queen's 25 points in the win.
Quarterback
Alex Vreeken (Kinesiology) was also solid once again for Queen's, finishing the game 18-32 for 316 yards.
Queen's Football was excellent on defence, limiting McMaster's passing game to just 259 yards on 45 passing attempts. Queen's had six pass breakups, led by
Koen Hubbard (Arts & Science) who recorded three, with
Wilson Heslop (Kinesiology), Iain St. Arnault (Economics), and
Xavier Smith (Economics) all recording one.
And for the second straight game, Queen's forced a significant fumble late in the game. Down eight points with less than two minutes to play, the Marauders running back broke free for a big gain on Queen's side of the field. But defensive back
Cordel Epale (Smith School of Business) tracked him down and punched the ball out, with Heslop once again scooping the ball up after also recovering the ball late in the game last week, to cement Queen's win.
Jacob Baldwin (PROGRAM) led the defence with 6.5 tackles (six solo, one assisted).
