St. Catharines, Ont. (February 2, 2020) – The Queen's Gaels earned the overall Bronze at the 2019-20 OUA Men's Fencing Championships hosted by Brock University.
In the Individual events held on Saturday, Queen's rookie Alex Sun earned the silver medal in Sabre event and with a number of top 16 finishes, the team scored enough points to put the Gaels in the fourth place overall after the first day of competition.
During Sunday's team's events, the Men's Sabre Team (Luke Steverango, Alex Sun, Kerith Tung, & Kenneth West) earned a silver in the Finals against RMC.
The Epee team (Isaac Hogan, Matthew Litwin, Rory McEwen, & Spencer McGregor) replicated this success earning Silver in their team finals against the University of Toronto. Queen's Men's Foil (Michael Ciomyk, Ben Laurin, Marc Schwenteck, & Kevin Wong) ended their day in ninth place.

WOMEN'S AND MEN'S WRESTLING
Last weekend, the Queen's Wrestling Team competed at the OUA championships in Guelph.
Matches were tough and brutal as wrestlers from across the province compete for their U SPORTS championship spot from Ontario. Kenna Wignet, 48kg Women's, placed 4th in her weight class. She demonstrated outstanding perseverance at the championship.
Karly Kundrinko, 55kg Women's, placed 5th in her weight class. Karly has had an amazing performance thus far and continues to amaze us with her ability to fight through the face of adversity.
Claire Vandesande, 72kg Women's, placed 7th in her weight class. Claire has demonstrated a remarkable sense of support and optimism that has shown her to be victorious time and time again throughout the season.
William Ye, 61kg Men's, placed 6th in his weight class. He took home a victory against Western's wrestler and subsequently fell against Lakehead's (who ended up winning gold).
Brian got 4th in 65kg. Joshua Aragone, 68kg Men's, placed 8th in his weight class. Prior to wrestling with Queen's, Joshua has never stepped foot on the mat. In a sport that is mentally and physically challenging to the greatest degree, Joshua has shown amazing ability and confidence in his actions.
Aidan MacCready, 72kg Men's, also placed 8th in his weight class. This was also his first year of wrestling and Aidan has demonstrated a remarkable sense of mat awareness. With more time, Aidan will be a force to be reckoned with.
Sam Keary, 76kg Men's, placed 4th in his weight class. Sam came out with two victories, one ending in a sub-30-second win against Algoma's finest and another via tech fall against Toronto.
As our season begins to wrap up, we would like to extend our thanks to two individuals who helped greatly at OUA's: Rebecca Hamilton and James Collingwood. Rebecca was, unfortunately, unable to compete at the OUA championship but she displayed astounding commitment and support to our wrestlers. She is a prime example of doing all you can and being all you can be. James rose above the call of duty and volunteered his time when we needed it the most. We would like to thank both James and Rebecca for their support and dedication to our team during OUA's.
