KINGSTON, Ont. (February 14, 2020) - The Queen's Gaels (12-4) took a straight set sweep of the Waterloo Warriors (3-11) 3-0 this Valentine's Day at the Queen's ARC.
GAME FLOW
Adam Boljkovac showed strongly in the first set. Picking up points off of kills and a serving ace early on, Boljkovac set an offensive tone that continued throughout the match. Multiple aces off the likes of Erik Siskna contributed to the Gaels quickly racking up an early lead. Queen's took the first set 25-20.
Zac Hutcheson's unstoppable attacks defined the second set. Hutcheson completed a match total of 12 kills and three digs. Despite a slow start for the Gaels, they continued to hold the offensive control. Following big blocks from
Julian Krygel and athletic rallies from the front row, the Gaels were set up to continue to monopolize the match, taking the second set 25-20.
The momentum swung in the Warriors favor in the third, with Waterloo maintaining a lead for the majority of the first half of the set. The Gaels did not let the Warriors advantage be long lived, quickly laying on heavy offensive pressure. Solid and consistent setting from
Zane Grossinger gave outside hitters the space they needed to lay down attacks. Grossinger completed the match with a match total of thirty-three assists. In a last-minute ditch-effort, the Warriors pull the third into an extended set. A tip from
Julian Krygel sealed the match point and Queen's took the set 30-28, and the match in straight sets.
