GAELS THIS WEEK - Volleyball teams and Women’s Hockey host Bell Let’s Talk Games Saturday evening

The Gaels women's and men's volleyball teams are at the ARC this Saturday at 6 and 8 pm vs Toronto and the women's hockey team is also playing Saturday at 7:30 pm vs Ontario Tech in special Bell Let's Talk games in support of mental health awareness!

WOMEN'S HOCKEY: Gaels look to keep pace in OUA playoff race with Ontario Tech in town
The Queen's Gaels (9-8-1-0) have just a lone matchup this weekend as they welcome the Ontario Tech Ridgebacks (5-13-0-0) to the Kingston Memorial Centre on Saturday night with puck drop set for 7:30 pm.

The Gaels had a tough challenge last weekend in their lone matchup taking on the nationally-ranked York Lions. York scored three times in the first period and held on for a 4-1 win over Queen's to move to the top spot in the OUA. The Gaels lone goal came off the stick of Alex Maw who made a great move around a defender and beat the Lions netminder.
 
The Ontario Tech Ridgebacks have struggled this season winning just one game in regulation so far. They have been hot of late however winning three of their last four games with two coming in overtime and one in a shootout.

The Gaels currently sit in a tie for eighth in the OUA but are just four points back of fourth.

WOMEN'S VOLLEYBALL: Nationally ranked Rams and Varsity Blues visit Gaels at the ARC

The Queen's Gaels (8-4) return home to Kingston this weekend as they welcome a pair of nationally-ranked OUA East opponents. On Friday night the Gaels welcome the No.3 Ryerson Rams (11-2) and then on Saturday the No.4 Toronto Varsity Blues (9-1) with each match set for 6 pm start times.

The Gaels picked up a 3-1 win last weekend on the road over the No.9 nationally ranked Western Mustangs, snapping a six-game losing streak to their rivals from London. The Gaels were led by 13 kills from Arielle Palermo led the Gaels with 13 kills while finishing as one of four Gaels with 10 or more digs. Saffron van der Linde also had a strong defensive game with four solo and four assisted blocks. The weekend finished in a split however as the Gaels ran out of steam the following day at Windsor losing in a five-setter to the Lancers.

The Ryerson Rams have lost just twice so far this season and enter the weekend on a three-game winning streak. The fell to Toronto and Western and will still host Queen's in Toronto on February 23. Former Gael Brett Hagarty leads the OUA in digs with 216. Toronto has lost just once this season falling in their season opener at Ryerson but have won all nine games since including a 3-0 victory over the Gaels.

Queen's is currently third in the OUA East while Toronto sits second and Ryerson first.

MEN'S VOLLEYBALL: No.7 nationally ranked Gaels host Ryerson and Toronto in a battle for the OUA East

The No.7 Queen's Gaels (8-3) will look to extend their six-game winning streak as they host the Ryerson Rams (7-5) on Friday night and the No.8 Toronto Varsity Blues (8-1) on Saturday night. Each match is set for an 8 pm start time.

Queen's picked up a pair of road wins last weekend and extend their winning streak to six games while also moving up one spot in the national rankings to No.7. Adam Boljkovac had a big weekend and in the Gaels 3-1 win at Western, Boljkovac finished with 18 kills and 11 digs while picking up a pair of block assists, the next night at Windsor he aided the Gaels to a 3-0 win with 13 kills and three block assists to go along with a pair of digs.

Ryerson has lost two of their last three matches falling to Windsor and McMaster but enters the weekend fresh off a 3-0 win at Brock. They have yet to face Queen's this season but will host the Gaels on February 23. Toronto is winners of four straight and has lost just once this season, a 3-0 defeat at the hands of the Marauders. The Varsity Blues were also able to pick up a win over the Gaels on November 8 3-1.

The Gaels sit tied with Toronto at 16 points apiece atop the OUA standings but the Varsity Blues hold two games in hand. Ryerson sits just two points behind the Gaels but Queen's holds a game in hand on the Rams.

WOMEN'S BASKETBALL: No.6 nationally ranked Gaels continue road swing with OUA Central matchups

After coming off of a weekend facing two nationally-ranked programs the Gaels will face yet another this weekend. First Queen's (9-5) will visit the McMaster Marauders (7-7) and close out the weekend at No.9 Brock (11-3). Both games are set for 6 pm tip-offs.

Queen's faced a tough test last weekend falling to No.3 Ottawa 81-71 on Friday but bounced back nicely with an overtime win over the then No.4 nationally ranked Carleton Ravens 80-75. After posting eight points and two steals in the loss to Ottawa, Emma Ritcey led the charge for the Tricolour in their 80-75 overtime win over Carleton. The guard scored a career-high 21 points in the win adding nine rebounds, along with a steal, block and assist.

The Marauders have struggled of late, losing five of their last six games with their lone win coming on January 15 vs Windsor. Brock has lost just three times this season but two have come in their last four games falling to York and Western earlier in January. Brock's Melissa Tatti and McMaster's Sarah Gates are currently tied for second in the OUA in scoring averaging 17 points per game.

MEN'S BASKETBALL: Gaels visit McMaster and Brock in search of bounce-back weekend
After tough losses to nationally ranked Ottawa and Carleton, the Gaels (8-6) continue their road trip as they visit the McMaster Marauders (9-5) on Friday and the Brock Badgers (8-6) on Saturday. Tip-off for each contest will be 8 pm.

Queen's had their win-streak snapped at five last weekend as Ottawa and Carleton defeated the Gaels 97-79 and 98-70 respectively. The road trip saw Harry Range finish with 22 points and Cameron Bett add another 21 off the bench against Ottawa while Quinton Gray led the Gaels with 18 points against the Ravens.

The OUA Central Marauders have lost three of their last four to start 2020 dropping contests to Ryerson, Windsor and Western while defeating York. For Brock, the Badgers have won three straight defeating Toronto, Western and Windsor heading into the weekend. Jordan Henry sits fourth in OUA scoring for McMaster averaging 22.0 points per game this season.

Every win is important for the Gaels as they will look to improve their record and potential OUA playoff standing with just eight games remaining in the OUA season.

MEN'S HOCKEY: Gaels host Ottawa then visit RMC for Carr-Harris Cup tune-up
After a strange week for the Gaels that saw their Sunday night game moved to Monday due to travel issues, Queen's (9-11-2) will host the No.9 Ottawa Gee-Gees (15-6-2) on Friday night at the Memorial Centre and then visit the RMC Paladins (7-14-1) on Saturday night in a preview of the Carr-Harris Cup. Friday night's game will see a 7:30 pm puck drops while the action will start Saturday at 7 pm.
 
The Gaels scored a 3-1 win against Ontario Tech last Friday and followed up with a shootout loss at Concordia after the game was moved from Sunday to Monday night. Ryan Cranford scored the game-winner on Friday night after Duncan Campbell fired a cross-ice pass to the wide-open Cranford.

The No.9 Gee-Gees have locked up a playoff spot but are coming off a 2-0 loss to inner-city rivals Carleton 2-0. Ottawa got the better of the Gaels in late November with a 3-2 shootout win in Ottawa. RMC is fighting for their playoff lives but have lost four straight games after having won three straight. RMC sits two points behind Nipissing for the eighth and final playoff spot while the Gaels are in sixth with 20 points, just one ahead of Ontario Tech and five ahead of RMC.

Queen's and RMC will meet again in the annual Carr-Harris Cup as the world's oldest hockey rivalry continues on February 6 at the Leon's Centre. Get your tickets today!
