School Day capacity crowd sees Gaels take on Volleyball Canada National Excellence Program

KINGSTON, Ont. (November 28, 2019) - The No.9 nationally ranked Queen's Gaels may have finished their OUA schedule for 2019 but the Gaels had a unique opportunity to take on the Volleyball Canada National Excellence Program (NEP) in front of a school day capacity crowd of 1,904 fans at the Queen's ARC Thursday afternoon.

The school day game crowd saw students from all over the Kingston region take in the exhibition action as the Gaels welcomed the Volleyball Canada National Excellence program to Kingston. Admission to the match was provided FREE for all schools in partnership with Martin's Bus Service.

Queen's welcomed Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic School, Elginburg District Public School, Module Vanier, Amherst Island PS, Sydenham PS, JG Simcoe PS, Molly Brant Elementary, Truedell PS, Southview Public School, Granite Ridge Education Centre, Calvin Park, Enterprise Public School, North Addington, Joyceville Public School, Lancaster Drive PS and Amherstview Public School.

The NEP is designed to prepare athletes to perform at the highest level of our sport and to continue their development towards the National Senior Team Program and/or playing professional volleyball. It offers individual technical and tactical skill development as well as team play refinement. Athletes are exposed to an array of Sport Science and Sport medicine services, dispensed by leading Canadian practitioners in a holistic high-performance environment. NEP athletes, through training, competition, and tours are introduced to leading international volleyball programs and clubs. 

Those selected to the NEP are committed to an investment in their future as an international athlete competing on the world stage.

The Gaels threw everything they had at the Canadian team, using the Kingston crowd as support. They went toe-to-toe with some of Canada's best and fell in three sets with close scores of 25-23, 25-13 and 26-24. The two sides played a fourth set as well which NEP won 25-19.
