Gaels earn national bronze with 31-22 win over host Concordia

| By:
MONTREAL (November 24, 2019) - The Ontario champion No.2 Queen's Gaels defeated the Quebec champion and hosts No.4 Concordia Stingers 31-22 in the Canadian University Men's Rugby Championship (CUMRC) bronze medal match.

GAME FLOW
Looking to earn their second straight national medal after finishing with a silver in their first appearance in the CUMRC last year, the Gaels had a tall task taking on the host Concordia Stingers.

The two teams were evenly matched but the Gaels were the first to put points on the board as Liam Casey pushed forward for a try. A tough conversion attempt from OUA MVP Dylan Young went right between the posts and the Gaels held a 7-0 advantage.

Young continued to have a strong morning for Queen's as he scored a try off a fake pass and converted making the Gaels lead 14-0.

The Stingers would not be outdone however as they gained some offensive momentum getting big runs leading them to their first try. The conversion was no good so the Gaels lead held at 14-5 into halftime.

Early in the second Queen's controlled the pace and the forwards push the pack in over the try line, Young scored and converted once again for a 21-5 lead. The dynamic Gael would add another try and Queen's was up big 26-5.

With the medal up for grabs, the Stingers made a late charge cutting the lead to 26-10 and following up with another two tries, both from Michael Laplaine-Pereira, and a conversion to get to within nine.

The Stingers ran out of time as the Gaels lead was too much to overcome. Queen's finished with a 31-22 bronze medal victory.
