KINGSTON, Ont. (November 15
th, 2019) – Gaels (5-4-0) hold off No.5 Gryphons (5-4-0) comeback with 4-3 overtime victory on Friday night.
GAME FLOW
Through the opening 20 minutes, both teams moved the puck across the ice well with both offenses creating scoring opportunities. With goalie
Sydney Wilson preventing Guelph from taking a late 1-0 lead with several stops, both teams walked into the dressing rooms scoreless at 0-0.
A two-on-one would see
Alex Maw leading Guelph's goalie with the puck before passing late to
Kaylie Dennis who would sneak it past the goal line for her third of the season and the Game's first goal giving Queen's a 1-0 lead midway through the second.
With a four on four power play less than 60 seconds remaining in the second,
Hannah De Coutere would add on to Gaels lead as the final 20 minutes would begin with Queen's leading the Gryphons 2-0.
Less than a minute into the final period, Guelph would knock the Gaels lead down to one making it 2-1 for Queen's. A goal midway through the third followed by a goal by the Gryphons would again cut the Gales lead down to one making it a 3-2 game with just over five minutes remaining in the contest.
Guelph would follow up with their third goal of the night, tying things up with 1:22 seconds left in the game which would send the game into overtime.
Fans at the Memorial Centre wouldn't have to hold their breath for long as
Hailey Wilson would score the game winner finishing off the Gryphons 4-3 and getting the Gaels above .500 with their fifth win of the year.
