KINGSTON, Ont. (November 16th, 2019) – The Gaels (5-4) shutout the Brock Badgers (3-6) 2-0 to earn as weekend sweep at the Memorial Centre.
GAME FLOW
Coming off of a win Friday night against Guelph, the Gaels had momentum on their side as they faced the Brock Badgers.
Queen's controlled the puck well during the opening 20 minutes. Alex Maw opened the scoring late in the first period to give the Gaels a 1-0 advantage heading into the first intermission.
After the Gaels dominated the first period, the second slowed down as the Badgers put pressure on Gaels goaltender Kathryn Jalink with Brock forward Annie Berg leading the attack. As the second period winded down, the Gaels found themselves down two players with a Brock 5-on-3 power play. Jalink and the Gaels unit killed both power plays off and kept their 1-0 lead going into the final 20 minutes of the game.
After a second period which had zero goals to show for it, it didn't take long for the Gaels to increase their lead as Hannah De Coutere slotted home Scout Watkins Southward's rebound into the back of the net with 16:34 remaining in the third.
Queens' impressive defense paired an outstanding performance by Jalink would be enough to hold the Badgers to zero goals and give the Gaels their fifth win of the year and inch them closer to the top of the OUA standings.
