NORTH BAY, Ont. (October 25, 2019) - The Queen's Gaels (1-0) had an offensive outpouring in their 2019-20 OUA season debut as they visited the Nipissing Lakers (0-1) and came away with a 92-53 win.
GAME FLOW
The Gaels had a fantastic start to their season-opening up a quick lead and keeping the Nipissing Lakers offence at bay. Nearing the midway point of the opening quarter the Gaels had opened up a 12-2 lead on Nipissing and closed out the quarter up 25-8.
A closer second quarter saw the two teams stay more consistent in scoring but the Gaels still held a big halftime lead of 40-24 behind 12 first-half points from Emma Ritcey who was 4-4 from the three-point line in the opening half.
In the second half, in her OUA debut, Isabella Belvedere caught fire and finished with 18 second-half points en route to 23 in her first game as a Gael.
While the offence was strong it was combined with a strong defence. The Gaels limited Nipissing to 30.4% shooting and 22.2% from beyond the arc. The Gaels also turned 25 Nipissing turnovers into 25 points.
The final quarter saw Queen's limit Nipissing to just seven points as the Gaels claimed a 92-53 victory.
