Young has 10 points in win over RMC as Gaels stretch OUA streak to 25 straight victories

| By:
KINGSTON, Ont. (October 11, 2019) - The Queen's Gaels (5-0) used a 26-point opening half to defeat the RMC Paladins (1-4) 47-0 on Friday evening at Nixon Field.

GAME FLOW

It was a bit of a slow start to the match as the two rivals from Kingston felt each other out in their first meeting of the season. Despite the lack of early scoring, it was the Gaels that controlled possession in the early stages.

At the 14 minute mark, Queen's got their first points on the board with a pair of tries. First Trevor Helgason was able to pounce from a metre out for a score and Liam Casey followed with a burst through the middle of the RMC line for a near 22-metre run. Dylan Young was successful on both conversions and the Gaels lead 14-0.

Young took matters into his own hands next, splitting through the posts from five-metres out for a try and successfully converting to make it 21-0. Another try from the Gaels had them ahead 26-0 at halftime.

In the second half Young was able to kick an errant RMC pass forward into the try zone but couldn't land on the loose ball for a try as it bounced out the back of the zone with multiple Paladins pressuring the Gaels star.

With a scrum set out left of the posts, great passing resulted in Chris Wells being the benefactor as he found a hole for the try. The conversion by Young had the Gaels up 33-0.

James Macdonald and Liam Geddes were able to strike late in the second half with Young and Connor Jaques picking up conversions bringing the score to its final 47-0.

Helgason gets the Gaels on the board Wells strikes early in the second half FINAL SAY
"RMC is quite difficult to play against, they spoil a lot of balls. We had a chat after the game that we were disappointed in the way we played. The outcome is irrelevant, our performance wasn't where we needed it to be. We weren't detailed enough, efficient enough or effective enough in what we were trying to do so we will work on that next week but that performance just wasn't good enough." - Head coach Dave Butcher.
