Men's Golf
The men's golf team picked up a pair of wins this past weekend with outstanding performances at the Carleton Invitational and the Bert Kea Queen's Invitational. Led by rookie Zachary Greifenberger, who shot a 2-under 70 for the individual win, the men's team grabbed the top spot for the tournament. Brendan Kuffner and Michael Von Schalburg shot 2-over (74), while veterans Trevor Corner was 4-over (76) and rookie Will McHenry was 5-over (77).
Next, they headed home for the Bert Kea Queen's Invitational and had a repeat performance. Zachary Greifenberger picked up his second individual win by shooting another 2-under (68), as the Gaels earned their second team win edging Guelph by one stroke. Other impressive performances included Michael Von Schalburg's 1-under (69) and Trevor Corner's even round of 70.
The team once again took home the Bert Kea Cup, which awarded to the higher scoring team between St. Lawrence College and Queen's University.
Women's Golf
The women's team had similar success to the men as they also snagged the top spot of the Carleton Invitational. Team captain Robyn Campbell finished with a 7-over (79) to finish one shot back of the individual lead. Second year Jacquie Miller shot a 9-over (81) to win the bronze medal.
At the Bert Kea Queen's Invitational the women finished behind the Waterloo Warriors for a 2
nd place finish. Campbell once again performed well as she finished with a 7-over (81) for the silver medal. The Gaels second team had a strong outing as well as they finished with the third best team total on the woman's side.
Both the men's and women's teams will be back in action on September 27 at the McMaster Invitational.
Women's Lacrosse
The women continued their undefeated start to the regular season with a pair of wins in Toronto on Saturday. First up, they overcame a tough battle with the Trent Excalibur pulling out a 10-8 win. Despite finding themselves down 6-3 at one point the Gaels rallied back to tie the game 6-6.
Then as Trent reclaimed an 8-6 lead, the Gaels once again showcased their resiliency forcing an 8-8 tie late in the game. The Gaels took their first lead of the game in the dying minutes scoring two goals to secure the win. Later, the Gaels took a dominant 16-0 win over the UOIT Ridgebacks. The Gaels had an 11-0 at half and cruised to the victory.
Up next, the women's team will head to Peterborough on September 23 for meetings with the Toronto Varsity Blues and the York Lions.
Men's Lacrosse
After opening the season 0-2, the Gaels bounced back with two commanding victories this past weekend. First, the Gaels traveled to Ottawa for a meeting with the Carleton Ravens. Goalies
Ryan Kent and
Taylor Welsh combined to allow just 3 goals as the Gaels took it 16-3.
On Sunday, the games were back at home and looking for revenge against the Bishop's Gaiters. The Gaels jumped out to a 7-1 lead and coasted to a win as they took the final 16-9. Angus Rawding had a massive weekend as he scored 11 goals and had five assists over the weekend. The rookie currently sits second overall in goals and first in points in the CUFLA.
Up next, the Gaels will head to Ottawa for a matchup with the Ottawa Gee-Gees on September 22.
Women's Fastpitch
The Gaels had a very successful weekend in Ottawa as they returned home with a 3-1 record after two days. However, the weekend didn't start on the right note as they dropped the opening game to the Ottawa Gee-Gees 6-4. They bounced back in the second game of the doubleheader with a 5-1 win as
Sarah Cvetkovski went 1-for-2 with a home run to help the Gaels split the series.
The next day, the Gaels swept the Carleton Ravens with 11-3 and 14-0 wins. In game one, Jenna Hofing went 4-for-4 with four stolen bases, while Cvetkovski cranked her second homer of the weekend. In the second game, Loren Proven had a game-high 5 RBI in the blowout win.
Natalie Buderick pitched three complete games in the Gaels three wins including a shutout over the Ravens in game two.
Up next, the Gaels will head to Toronto on September 22 for a doubleheader against the York Lions. Then on September 23 they'll head back home for a double header against McMaster at Garrigan Park.
Men's Baseball
The men's team also went 3-1 this weekend as they put on a show for their home fans at Megaffin Park. On Saturday, the Gaels split a pair of games with the Ryerson Rams with an 11-0 win and 10-5 loss. Then on Sunday, they swept the Laurentian Voyageurs with 5-4 and 6-4 wins.
They'll be back on the road next weekend as they head to London for a doubleheader with Western on September 22. Then on September 23 they'll be in Guelph for a doubleheader against the Guelph Gryphons.
Women's Field Hockey
The Gaels opened their 2018 season with a 1-1 record on opening weekend. The Gaels traveled to Toronto for their season opening matchup against the Western Mustangs. The Gaels had faced the Mustangs twice in preseason play and used this to their advantage in a 4-0 win. They ended the weekend with a 4-1 loss to the Toronto Varsity Blues.
Up next, the Gaels will head to Guelph on September 22, for matchups with York and Guelph.
Cycling
The Gaels opened their season on September 15 on top of the standings after their strong performance at the Albion Hills Conservation Area. Andrew Jonker finished first in the men's A race while Chris Hatton finished third. In the men's B race Ben Ernewein grabbed second place, while Hanna Girndt won the Women's B race.
The next day, the team was back at it in Mansfield, Ont. for the second race of the season. Despite, the heat and humidity the team finished strong with multiple podiums. Andrew Jonker won the men's A again with Evan Mant finishing third. Meanwhile, Ben Ernewein finished third in the men's B race. Hannah Simms finished second in the women's A while Hanna Girndt placed 2
nd in the women's B.
