Kingston, Ont. (September 10, 2018) - The Queen's University Football Players of the Week for the period ending September 10, 2018 are
Nate Hobbs on offence and
Kurtis Schaefer on defence and
Nathan Langley on special teams from the Gaels 43-7 win against the Toronto Varsity Blues.
Nate Hobbs (Mississauga, Ont.) is the Queen's University offensive football player of the week. Despite being one of the OUA's prolific passers, it was Hobbs' rushing performance that had a huge impact on the score of the game and in the record books. In the second quarter, Hobbs set a new Queen's record for career rushing touchdowns by a quarterback. His two rushing touchdowns brought his career total to 11, which passes Cal Connor (10) for the most in school history. Hobbs also had a strong game through the air as he went 27-39 for 386 yards with one passing touchdown.
Kurtis Schaefer (Stittsville, Ont.) is the Queen's University defensive football player of the week. The fourth year linebacker lead the Gaels defensively with his 6.5 tackles which brings his season total to 14, second best on the team. He also recorded his first sack of the season on Toronto's speedy quarterback Clay Sequeira. Schaefer played a key role in keeping the Varsity Blues offence scoreless throughout the entirety of the game.
Nathan Langley (Burlington, Ont.) is the Queen's University special teams football player of the week. Langley got the game started with a bang as he returned the opening kickoff 110-yards for the touchdown. It was the Gaels first special teams' touchdown of the season and the first career touchdown for the rookie who returned three kicks for 166 yards on the afternoon.
