No.8 Gaels too strong offensively in 5-2 win over No.7 Carleton

| By:
BOX SCORE KINGSTON, Ont. (November 30, 2018) – The No.8 Queen's Gaels (12-3-0) overcame the No.7 Carleton Ravens (10-2-3) with a 5-2 win on Friday night. The win allowed the Gaels to leapfrog the Ravens for second in the OUA East.

GAME FLOW
With both teams feeling each other out in the opening minutes, the Gaels were the first to strike.

Slater Doggett fired a laser pass through the slot to a wide-open Alex Row who snapped a quick wrist shot past Ravens' netminder Francois Brassard.

Then, midway through the period the Ravens responded. Brogan O'Brien sent a high pass up to Jacob Smith who tipped the puck out of the air and past Jack Flinn.

With much on the line between two of the top OUA East teams, tempers began to flare at the end of period after a pair of big hits from both sides. After the first, both teams were locked at 1-1.

The lone goal of the second period came from the captain Spencer Abraham. With Duncan Campbell alone behind the net, Abraham snuck in from the point and found a pass from Campbell in the slot. He roofed it to the top left-hand corner to give the Gaels a 2-1 lead heading into the second intermission.

The Gaels opened the third on a powerplay, however it would be the Ravens who would capitalize. Brogan O'Brien used a couple of nifty moves to create a chance in front and buried a shorthanded goal on his backhand to tie the game 2-2.

However, not shortly after the Gaels would respond thanks to a heads up play from Slater Doggett. After a drop pass to Patrick Sanvido, the Gaels' alternate captain crashed the net as Sanvido sent a shot and rebound his way. Doggett then hopped on the loose puck and fired it into the open net.

Moments later, Mason Kohn sent a saucer pass to Duncan Campbell who got enough on the redirection to get the puck through the five-hole of Brassard and past the goal line.

Doggett would add his second of the game on an empty netter late in the third.

BY THE NUMBERS
3 – Three point night for Slater Doggett who once again had a strong game against Carleton.
32 – Jack Flinn was calm, cool and collected as he made 32 saves in a winning effort.
39 – The Ravens took 39 penalty minutes as the Gaels were able to capitalize off their lack of discipline.

CHASING QUEEN'S HISTORY
On Friday night, Spencer Abraham brought his career total to 110, which is now just 6 points behind Aaron Fransen's 116 points for the Gaels all-time points record.
