MONTREAL - The Queen's women's volleyball team is in Montreal this weekend to open up their exhibition schedule against members of the RSEQ conference.
FRIDAY
GAME 1 - Queen's 3, Sherbrooke 1
The Gaels got started off on the right foot picking up a 3-1 victory over Sherbrooke on Friday afternoon.
Queen's finished off the Vert et Or with set scores of 25-20, 20-25, 25-14 and 25-23.
GAME 2 - Queen's 3, Montreal 2
In a game that went the distance it was the Gaels who came out on top, squeaking out a five set victory over the Montreal Carabins.
The set scores finished 19-25, 25-18, 28-26, 18-25 and 15-13 in favour of the Gaels.
Queen's was able to fight back after dropping the opening set to take sets two and three, with the third needing extra points to eventually decide Queen's as the winner 28-26. The Carabins were able to stave off a loss in the fourth set with a 25-18 decision before the Gaels were finally able to put them away in the fifth set 15-13.
It's a quick turnaround for Queen's as they will take on McGill at 10 am on Saturday.
SATURDAY
GAME 1 - Queen's 0, McGill 3
An early start on Saturday morning had the Gaels taking on the McGill Martlets to open action on Saturday.
For Queen's they were outmatched falling in straight sets with set scores of 25-12, 25-19 and 25-17.
GAME 2 - Queen's 2, UQAM 3
The Gaels pushed the host UQAMÂ Citadins to a fifth and final set to close out the tournament on Saturday afternoon.
Set scores finished up at 25-23, 17-25, 25-22, 22-25 and 10-15 as the Gaels came close to shutting down the tournament hosts.
Queen's finishes the round robin portion of the tournament with a 2-2 record after dropping both matches on Saturday.
SUNDAY
BRONZE GAME - Queen's 3, Montreal 0
Queen's finished as the top placing Ontario school at the invitational tournament and faced off against Montreal in the third place game.
The two teams previously met on Friday in a match that went the distance but was won by the Gaels 3-2.
This time around, Queen's wasted no time getting ahead and keeping Montreal at bay. The Gaels took the opening set 25-16 and had an impressive performance in the second set holding off the Carabins and claiming a 27-25 win.
From there they finished things off with a 25-18 win for the straight sets victory.
Next the Gaels will be in St. Catharines for the Brock Invitational Tournament October 6 and 7.
