Lacrosse moves to top of OUA East with back-to-back wins

KINGSTON, Ont. (October 10, 2017) - The Gaels women's lacrosse team hosted back-to-back games this weekend against the visiting York Lions and UOIT Ridgebacks at Miklas-McCarney Field on Saturday.

Opening play against York, the Gaels dominated the Lions in a 19-1 victory. Offensively, Queen's had a balanced attack with ten different tricolour scorers. Leading the charge was senior Sam French with five goals, accompanied by three goals from Annie Lloyd, and more scores from AJ Lockhard, Michelle Griffin, Alexa Fenton, and Kiah Shanks

The afternoon brought the second game of the day for Queen's, who came out just as strong with a 15-0 win against UOIT. Veteran player Sam French led the Gaels with another five goal game. Alexa Fenton tacked on another four goals, as well as scores from AJ Lockhard, Molly Fisher and Kiah Shanks to cap off the win. The Gaels defense kept UOIT off the scoreboard and Maddie Sumalis earned a rare shutout in the victory.

With the back-to-back wins, the women's lacrosse team moves to 8-1-1, good for first place  in the OUA East conference.

Up next, the Gaels have a 3-game weekend in Waterloo, where they will take on Brock, McMaster and Western to wrap up the regular season
