Hunt the hero in Gaels 3-2 win over Guelph

KINGSTON, Ont. (November 11, 2016) - The Gaels (8-2-1) beat Guelph (5-6-0) Friday night 3-2 on a last-minute goal from Ted Hunt (Toronto) at the Memorial Centre.

GAME FLOW
Queen's started the first period with good energy, and it wasn't long before Hunt took a stretch pass for a breakaway. Guelph goaltender Scott Stajcer stood tall in the Gryphons net, rejecting Hunt's backhand attempt.

Guelph was first to break the deadlock in the second period on a tally from Mark Raycroft. The Gaels responded less than two minutes later, when Brock Edwards (Kingston, Ont.) tipped in a low shot from Spencer Abraham (Campbellville, Ont.) in transition. The Gryphons took their second lead of the game in the latter part of the period when Trevor Morbeck beat Queen's goaltender Kevin Bailie (Belleville, Ont.) up high. The teams went into the break tied at 2-2 after the tricolour took advantage of a giveaway. Darcy Greenaway (Wilton, Ont.) took the puck up the left boards and found Dylan Anderson (Greely, Ont.) in front, who found the back of the net. Warren Steele (Williamsburg, Ont.) picked up the second assist on the play.

After the Gaels and Gryphons played over half of the final frame tied 2-2, Queen's went to a four-minute power-play after Marc Stevens took a double minor for head-butting. Guelph kept the tricolour off the scoreboard during the man-advantage, but the Gaels took the lead in final minute of play. Greenaway started a hard forecheck for Queen's, eventually picking up the puck near the blue line. After working his way to the net, Greenaway found Hunt open to the left of goal. Hunt made no mistake, burying the game-winner with 49 seconds left after making a move in tight. Anderson picked up his second point of the game with the second assist.

Bailie stopped 20 shots for the win. Stajcer was the busier of the two netminders, making 27 saves in a losing effort for Guelph.
