Abraham Scores Shootout Winner to Defeat Western Mustangs 4-3

KINGSTON, Ont. (November 12, 2016) - The Queen's Gaels (9-2-1) defeated the Western Mustangs (4-5-2) 4-3 Saturday night in a shootout at the Memorial Centre in Kingston.

GAMEFLOW
The first period was action packed, with chances in both ends of the rink. However, it was the Western Mustangs who were first to get on the scoreboard. Robert Polesello scored for the Mustangs, after making a deke and firing a quick snapshot. Scott Teskey and Jonathan Laser assisted on the play. In spite of a number of chances, this proved to be the only goal of the period. Goaltender Jacob Brennan (Bedford, N.S.) made a number of big saves for the Gaels, stopping two breakaways in the period.

In the second period, the Gaels scored three consecutive goals to take a 3-1 lead. Patrick Downe (New Maryland, N.B.) scored the first goal for the Gaels on a snapshot from the point. Ted Hunt (Toronto) and Eric Margo (North Vancouver, BC) assisted on the play. In the sixteenth minute Darcy Greenway (Wilton, Ont.) scored the Gaels second goal, after tapping in a cross-crease pass from Dylan Anderson (Greely, Ont.). Hunt picked up the second assist. One minute later, Harrsion Hendrix (Calgary) scored to give the Gaels a 3-1 lead on a low point shot. Eric Ming (Williamstown, Ont.) assisted on the play.

In the third, the Mustangs were able to come back and tie the game 3-3, after scoring two straight goals. Two minutes into the period, Ray Huether scored an unassisted goal for the Mustangs on a backhand shot. Nearing the end of the period, Rylan Bechtel scored for the Mustangs to tie the game. Trevor Warnaar and Cole Benson assisted on the play. This forced the game into overtime.

After two scoreless overtime periods, the game went into a shootout. After Brennan made three shootout saves, Spencer Abraham (Campbellville, Ont.) scored the game winning shootout goal, on a backhand toe-drag deke. This gave Queen's a 4-3 victory as they stay in second in the OUA East with a 9-2-1 record.
