Brett Gibson

Brett Gibson is in his 19th year behind the bench for Queen’s Men’s Hockey.

Gibson and Queen’s Men’s Hockey returned to the U SPORTS Men’s Hockey Championship after capturing the bronze medal in the OUA in 2024-25. The Gaels finished the regular season with a 22-6-0-0 record, setting a program record for regular season wins.

In 2023, Gibson was named head coach of the 2023 U SPORTS Men’s Hockey All-Stars that competed at Canada’s Junior Team Selection camp, splitting their two-game series. Gibson tied the Gaels' franchise record with 19 wins in 2023-24, also set in the 2017-18 and 2018-19 season.

Gibson was named to Team Canada's coaching staff for the 2022 FISU Winter Universiade, the third time he was named to the staff after serving as Head Coach for Canada at the 2017 Winter Universiade and leading the team to a bronze medal. Gibson was also named to the coaching staff for the 2021 Winter Universiade, which was cancelled due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

In the spring of 2019, Gibson was named the head coach of the Canada National Men's Under-18 Team for the 2019 IIHF U18 World Championship in Sweden and led Canada to a fourth place finish at the tournament. Gibson helped Queen's capture their first Queen's Cup championship since 1981 in the 2018-19 season as well.

Gibson was named the OUA East Division Coach of the Year and CIS Coach of the Year during the 2013-14 season, when helped Queen's return to the national Top 10 Rankings for the first time since 1982-83. The Gaels reaching as high as No. 7 that season.

Gibson was also named the OUA East Division Coach of the Year in 2007-08 in just his second season as Head Coach with Queen's.
Prior to joining the Gaels as an assistant coach in 2005-06, Gibson enjoyed an excellent four year career at St. Mary’s University in Halifax, N.S. As a member of the Huskies, Gibson scored 42 goals and 56 assists in 88 career games. Also a distinguished junior player, Gibson played four seasons in the OHL for Erie, North Bay and London, tallying 119 goals and 143 assists in 252 games.

Gibson resides in Gananoque with his wife Angela, where he also works in his family business.
