Kingston, Ont. (October 7, 2016) - The Gaels (4-1-1) got on the board early en route to a 44-17 win over the Trent Excalibur (3-3) on Nixon Field heading into Thanksgiving weekend.
GAME FLOW
It was
Dylan Young (Toronto) who got things started for Queen's in the second minute, cruising by Trent defenders down the wing to score between the goalposts. Young went on to score the opening 13 points for the Gaels, hitting a penalty goal when the tricolour kicked for points before he ran into the try zone for his second try of the game. From there,
Douglas Scully (Toronto) scored a pair of his own tries for Queen's. One successful conversion from
Alex Colborne (London, Ont.) made it 25-0 at halftime.
As some Gaels subs came into the game in the second half, the score started to level out. Nick DeLallo (Ottawa) from Queen's and Hayden Ryan from Trent traded tries in the second half. DeLallo scored four minutes into the frame before Ryan responded in the 15th. After DeLallo scored his second try in the 20th minute, it was again Ryan who responded for the Excalibur. Both of Ryan's tries were scored on runs from near midfield, showcasing his speed and ability to make defenders miss. When MacKenzie Sheridan put another try down for Trent, the Gaels lead was down to 39-17.
Angus MacPhail put the final try of the game down for Queen's with seven minutes to play to give the tricolour a 44-17 victory.
Colborne hit three conversions in the game, while Trent's Brian Hoey was successful on one conversion.
