GAME OF THE WEEK
WOMEN'S VOLLEYBALL
RECORD: 6-5Last time out: W 3-0 @ LakeheadSTREAK: Won 2
WHO'S HOT?: Shannon Neville - Recorded double-digit kills in Gaels last two wins

The Gaels women's volleyball team (6-5) hosts the York Lions (4-7) Friday in the Game of the Week matchup followed by a Saturday night home game against the Nipissing Lakers (1-10). Both games start at 6pm in the ARC main gym.

Queen's swept Lakehead 3-0 on the road in their lone game last weekend. Shannon Neville (North Vancouver) led the Gaels attack with 13 kills in the win, while first-year Franzi Wilhelm (Lichtenstein, Germany) had 28 assists as the team's setter.

In fifth spot in the OUA East with eight points, York is just one place behind Queen's, with 12 points. The Lions are looking to pick up their first win of 2016 after losing a home game 3-1 to Ryerson and a road game 3-0 to No.4 Toronto last weekend. When the Gaels went to Toronto in early November, they handed York a 3-0 loss.

Nipissing is chasing both York and Queen's in the OUA East, as the Lakers are tied with RMC at the bottom of the standings with just one win apiece. The team from North Bay hosted Ryerson and No.4 Toronto last weekend, with both road teams coming away with victories. Queen's also stole a win from Nipissing when they visited the Lakers in November.

GAME OF THE WEEK
MEN'S VOLLEYBALL
RECORD: 8-3Last time out: L 3-1 @ McMasterSTREAK: Lost 1
WHO'S HOT?: Marko Dakic - One of two Gaels to score double-digit kills against McMaster

The No.8 Queen's men's volleyball team (8-3) plays host to the York Lions (6-8) Friday at 8pm in the Game of the Week before Saturday's 8pm home game against the Nipissing Lakers (5-8). Both games will follow the women's matches in the ARC main gym.

The Gaels started 2016 with a tough road weekend at the No.1 McMaster Marauders. Mike Tomlinson (Stratford, Ont.) and Marko Dakic (Mississauga, Ont.) both recorded double-digit kills in the 3-1 loss to the top-ranked team in the country, while Jamie Wright (Kingston, Ont.) and Thomas Ellison (Winnipeg, Man.) shared the setting duties. The one set Queen's stole from McMaster was just the third set the Marauders have conceded in their undefeated season.

York lost a home game to No.10 Ryerson before blanking Toronto on the road last weekend. After splitting their last two games, the Lions sit in sixth spot in the OUA with 12 points, compared to Queen's in third spot with 16 points. When the Gaels went head to head with York in November, Queen's won 3-1 on the road.

Nipissing is a game back of York in the seventh spot of the OUA standings. The Lakers lost a pair of home games to No.10 Ryerson and Toronto to start 2016, 3-0 and 3-1 respectively. The Gaels grinded out a five set win in November when they visited Nipissing in North Bay.

Both Gaels men's home games begin at 8pm. You can get tickets for these and other upcoming games here

WOMEN'S HOCKEY
RECORD: 8-1-3-2Last time out: OTL 2-1 @ YorkSTREAK: Lost 2
WHO'S HOT?: Clare McKellar - Scored on a penalty shot to force overtime against York

The Gaels women's hockey team (8-1-3-2) plays its first home games of 2016 against the Waterloo Warriors (8-2-5-1) Friday and the Laurier Golden Hawks (7-1-6-1). Puck drop is set for 7:30pm both nights at the Memorial Centre.

Queen's played just one game last weekend, travelling to York where they suffered a 2-1 overtime loss to the Lions. The Gaels struggled to find the back of the net during open play on Saturday afternoon, but Clare McKellar (London, Ont.) forced the game to overtime when she converted on a penalty shot. Caitlyn Lahonen (Saskatoon, Sask.) made 26 saves for Queen's in the loss.

The Warriors are coming off a pair of home wins in which the Waterloo squad showcased their high-powered offense. Saturday's 9-4 win against Laurentian is the highest scoring game in the OUA this season, with no other team scoring more than seven goals in a game, and no other game having a combined score above 11. Waterloo found the net again in their 4-1 Sunday win against Nipissing. Rachel Marriott exploded to third in OUA goals, lighting the lamp four times last weekend. When Queen's played in Waterloo on Halloween, the Gaels were 2-1 victors.

Eighth in the OUA standings, Laurier sits just four and five points behind Waterloo and Queen's, who are fourth and fifth, respectively. The Golden Hawks split their home games last weekend, losing 2-0 to Laurentian on Friday before topping Nipissing 1-0 in overtime on Saturday. Jessie Hurrell's sixth goal of the season was the overtime winner for Laurier. Although the Gaels and Golden Hawks have yet to play this season, Queen's won both 2014-15 regular season meetings before Laurier ousted the tricolour from the playoffs.

Both Gaels women's hockey home games begin at 7:30pm. You can get tickets for these and other upcoming games here

MEN'S HOCKEY
RECORD: 11-6-1Last time out: L 3-2 vs. CarletonSTREAK: Lost 3
WHO'S HOT?: Spencer Abraham - Leads Queen's with 22 points and is on a five game point-streak

The Queen's men's hockey team (11-6-1) is hitting the road after a tough homestand, playing at the Laurentian Voyageurs (7-10-4) on Friday at 7:45pm and at the Nipissing Lakers (8-9-3) at 7pm on Saturday.

The Gaels played host to high-calibre opposition during the past week, losing a trio of one-goal games to Concordia, No.5 UQTR, and No.9 Carleton. Three lead-changes took place in the Gaels 4-3 loss to Concordia on Friday night, and UQTR needed double-overtime to stave off a strong Queen's comeback on Saturday, when the fell 3-2. The Gaels suffered another 3-2 loss in a Tuesday night affair against Carleton, in which Queen's was once again playing from behind.

Laurentian picked up their first win in seven games in a 4-3 contest against Laurier on Saturday after falling 6-2 to Waterloo on Friday. 10 Voyageurs got on the scoresheet in Saturday's win, led by Nick Esposto, who tallied a goal and an assist. This Friday will be the first meeting between Laurentian and Queen's this season, as the teams are saving their second meeting for the final game of the regular season.

Nipissing and Laurentian sit in seventh and eighth to Queen's fifth in the OUA East standings. Like the Gaels, The Lakers are on a three-game slide to start 2016, having lost 4-2 at Waterloo and 3-1 at Laurier last weekend. While Nipissing and Queen's have not yet played this season, the teams split their two meetings during 2014-15, with the home side winning each time.

Spencer Abraham (Campbellville, Ont.) and Eric Ming (Williamstown, Ont.) lead the Gaels with 22 and 19 points, respectively. Ming is riding a nine-game point-streak, in which he has 13 points, while Abraham has started a five-game spree totalling eight points.

WOMEN'S BASKETBALL
RECORD: 8-1Last time out: W 80-74 @ RyersonSTREAK: Won 4
WHO'S HOT?: Robyn Pearson - Dominated the glass last weekend with 20 rebounds in one game

The No.9 Gaels women's basketball team (8-1) plays a solitary road game against the York Lions (2-7) at 1pm on Saturday in their annual Shoot for the Cure game.

Queen's is coming off a convincing 57-33 road win against Toronto and an 80-74 upset of No.4 Ryerson. Robyn Pearson (Toronto) earned a pair of double-doubles last weekend, including a 20 rebound, 11 point performance against Toronto. In Saturday's win against Ryerson, Jenny Wright (Kingston, Ont.) scored a team-high 20 points to move into a tie with another Kingston native, Liz Boag, for second place in Gaels all-time scoring with 1055 career points.

The Lions have yet to win in 2016, losing 75-61 at Toronto to start the year, then falling 99-61 to Ryerson on the road on January 13. York will have had 10 full days to prepare for Saturday's game against Queen's. The Gaels look to replicate the result from the first game of the season, when Queen's beat the Lions 64-47 at the ARC. Saturday's game will match up the top and bottom of the OUA East division, as the Gaels sit in sole posession of first place.

Queen's hosts their own Shoot for the Cure game at 6pm in the ARC on Saturday, February 6, against Lakehead.

MEN'S BASKETBALL
RECORD: 6-3Last time out: L 97-81 @ RyersonSTREAK: Lost 2
WHO'S HOT?: Tanner Graham - Has back-to-back double-doubles

The Queen's men's basketball team (6-3) has a quiet weekend with just one road game against the York Lions (3-6) on Saturday at 3pm.

The Gaels suffered a pair of losses last weekend on the road. In an 85-84 nail-biter against Toronto on Friday, Queen's came up just short, despite a 24 point night from Sukhpreet Singh (Toronto) and a double-double from Tanner Graham (Kingston, Ont.). Saturday night's 97-81 loss to No.5 Ryerson started out well for the Gaels, who jumped out to a 25-24 lead after the first quarter. Once again, Singh put up 24 points and Graham had another double double. Some extra scoring came from Ryall Stroud (Toronto), who went 7-8 from the free-throw line en route to a career-high 25 points.

York and Toronto are tied with six points each at the bottom of the OUA East division, while Queen's and Ryerson are tied atop the four-team division with 12 points apiece. The Lions are coming off losses to their division rivals, just like the Gaels. To start the new calendar year, York lost 72-70 at Toronto before Ryerson beat the Lions 104-69. Queen's and York played in the first game of the season in Kingston, where the Gaels won 70-66 led by Singh and Graham.
