Gaels This Week - Queen's Football Home Playoff Game vs Carleton & Women's Rugby OUA Bronze Medal Game vs Western on Saturday
FOOTBALLThe Gaels football team (5-3) will be hosting the Carleton Ravens (5-3) in an OUA Quarter-final playoff game at Richardson Stadium on Saturday at 1pm.
The Queen's Gael s played their last regular season and Homecoming game at Richardson Stadium last weekend when they hosted the Laurier Golden Hawks. The Gaels were defeated by the Golden Hawks by a score of 49-26 to spoil Queen's Homecoming game.
Doug Corby (Burlington, Ont.) led the Gaels offence Saturday afternoon with 11 receptions for 162 yards and a touchdown reception.
Jonah Pataki (Wallaceburg, Ont.) led the rushing attack with 122 rushing yards with two touchdowns scored. Queen's kicker
Dillon Wamsley (London, Ont.) hit his 52nd career field goal which is two shy of the all-time record by Dan Village's 54.
The Gaels finished their regular season with a 5-3 record. Their five victories came against Carleton in Week 1, Waterloo in Week 3, Toronto in Week 5, an upset win over No.7 Guelph in Week 6 and York in Week 7. The Gaels three losses came against Ottawa in Week 2, No. 3 Western in Week 4 and Laurier in the final game of the season in Week 9.
The Gaels and the Ravens have not played each other in the playoffs in over 32 years. They've only met each other three times in the OUA playoffs. Queen's has won all three playoff matchups with the first meeting in 1978 where the Gaels won 17-13, second meeting in 1979 with a 25-5 win and the third and final playoff meeting was in 1983 where Queen's won 32-18.
The last meeting between the Gaels and Ravens came in the opening game of the regular season where Queen's won 34-24 over Carleton. The Gaels came back from an early 14-0 deficit thanks to
Jesse Andrews (Arnprior, Ont.) and
Doug Corby (Burlington, Ont.) who each had a pair of touchdowns. Andrews finished with 21 rushes for 178-yards and two touchdowns while Corby had nine receptions for 137-yards and two touchdowns. Gaels quarterback
Nate Hobbs (Mississauga, Ont.) finished the game 24 of 36 with 338-yards and two touchdowns while on defence
Nelkas Kwemo (Montreal) led all players with seven tackles. The Ravens were led by Nathaniel Behar who caught four passes for 105-yards and one touchdown.

Last weekend Corby had a season high 11 receptions for 162 yards and one touchdown. The Gaels receiver finished the regular season with 30 receptions for 592 yards with five touchdown receptions. His 118.4 yards per game is ranked third best in the CIS. |
WOMEN'S RUGBYNeed to Know: No.4 Ranked team in CIS, Gaels will host CIS Championship Nov.5-8 at Nixon Field.
The No.4 women's rugby team will be hosting the Western Mustangs this weekend in the OUA Bronze Medal Game at Nixon Field at 3pm. Last weekend the Gaels were up against the No.1 team in the nation on the road as they visited Guelph for the second time in three weeks. The Gryphons scored tries early and didn't take long to get out in front 19-0 in the first half. The Gaels, the only team to have scored a try against Guelph during the regular season, managed to get on the board thanks to a penalty goal to close the first half by
Erin Geddes (Lindsay, Ont.). The Gryphons led at halftime by a score of 24-3. The second half saw the Gryphons add 14 more points and finish off the Gaels 38-3.
Western comes into the bronze medal game after a 51-7 semi-final lost against the McMaster Marauders last weekend.

MEN'S SOCCERThe men's soccer team (9-2-5) will be hosting the UOIT Ridgebacks (5-9-2) Wednesday afternoon at 3pm at Miklas McCarney Field in an OUA first round matchup.
Last weekend the Gaels closed out their regular season with a 2-0 shutout win against Nipissing on Saturday followed by a 1-1 draw against Laurentian. Queen's finished the season with a 9-2-5 record which placed them third in the OUA East Division with 32 points. The Gaels leading goal scorer this season was striker
Jacob Schroeter (Ottawa) who finished with six goals in nine games played.
UOIT finished the regular season with a 5-9-2 record which placed them sixth in the OUA East Division and clinched the last OUA playoff spot. The Ridgebacks come into this match winless in their previous four matches with their last win coming at Laurentian on October 11th.
The Gaels and Ridgebacks met twice this regular season both home and away with Queen's winning both matches by identical scores of 1-0.

WOMEN'S SOCCERThe women's soccer team (7-2-7) will be traveling to Toronto Wednesday evening to take on the Varsity Blues (9-6-1) in an OUA first round matchup.
Last weekend the Gaels closed out their regular season with a 3-1 win against Nipissing on Saturday followed by a scoreless 0-0 draw against Laurentian. Queen's finished the season with a 7-2-7 record which placed them fifth in the OUA East Division with 28 points. The Gaels offensively were led by Captain
Jessie de Boer (North Vancouver) and
Tara Bartram (Vancouver) who finished the season with 8 and 5 goals respectively. First year player's
Jenny Wolever (Toronto) and
Sarah Nixon (Oakville, Ont.) had great rookie season's up front for the Gaels scoring a combined seven goals. Goalkeeper
Madison Tyrell (White Rock) had another strong season as she only allowed seven goals in 11 games played recording four clean sheets.
The Gaels and Ridgebacks met twice this regular season with Queen's losing the first game 1-0 at home followed by a scoreless 0-0 draw at UOIT.

MEN'S RUGBYThe men's rugby team will host the McMaster Marauders (5-2) this Saturday afternoon at 1pm at Nixon Field in the team's last regular season game. The Gaels are currently 6-1 this season with 31 points which places them second in the OUA standings.
Last weekend the Gaels hosted the visiting Toronto Varsity Blues where Queen's had a convincing 83-5 victory at Nixon Field. Kainoa Lloyd (Mississauga, Ont.) led the way for the Gaels as he finished with five total tries scored in the win.
The Gaels are currently riding a six game winning streak heading into this weekend's last regular season matchup against the Marauders.
WOMEN'S VOLLEYBALLThe women's volleyball team (0-1) will be hosting their season home openers this weekend as they welcome the visiting Ryerson Rams (1-0) Friday night at 6pm and the No.5 Toronto Varsity Blues (1-0) Saturday at 6pm in the Main Gym of the ARC.
Last weekend the Gaels opened up their regular season on the road at Ottawa against the Gee Gee's. Queen's dropped the season opener 3-0 (25-22, 25-14, 25-14). Fifth-year senior
Shannon Hopkins (North Vancouver) recorded a game-high 10 kills and 12 points and fourth-year
Shannon Neville (Cambridge, Ont.) picked up seven kills in the losing cause for the Gaels.
Both Ryerson and Toronto won their season openers last weekend with the Rams defeating Brock 3-0 and the Varsity Blues defeating Guelph 3-0.
MEN'S VOLLEYBALLThe No.9 men's volleyball team (1-0) will be hosting their season home openers this weekend as they welcome the visiting Ryerson Rams (1-0) Friday night at 8pm and the No.5 Toronto Varsity Blues (1-0) Saturday at 8pm in the Main Gym of the ARC.
Last weekend the Gaels opened up their regular season on the road against cross town RMC. Queen's grabbed a straight set 3-0 win against the Paladins (0-2). Newcomer
Marko Dakic (Mississauga, Ont.) along with
Dylan Hunt (Aurora, Ont.) led the attack, contributing 14 points each to the Gaels win.
Both Ryerson and Toronto won their season openers last weekend with the Rams defeating Guelph 3-1 on Friday and the Varsity Blues defeated the Gryphons on Saturday 3-1.
WOMEN'S HOCKEYThe women's hockey team (5-0-1) will be on the road this weekend as they travel to Waterloo Saturday afternoon to take on the Warriors (3-2-2) at 2:30pm. They will also travel to Guelph on Sunday afternoon to take on the No.6 Gryphons (4-2-0) at 2pm.
Last weekend the Gaels hosted Laurentian (3-3-1) on Friday night with Queen's coming away with a 2-0 shutout win over the Voyageurs. On Saturday the Gaels hosted Nipissing (3-2-2) with Queen's winning the game 3-2 in overtime from a goal from
Taryn Pilon (Peterborough, Ont.).
The Gaels are currently 5-0-1 during their first six games of the season which places them second overall in the OUA standings. During the team's first six games they have only allowed five goals against which are tied for the lowest in the OUA with Laurier thus far. Queen's enters this weekend with a three game winning streak.
MEN'S HOCKEYThe men's hockey team (4-1-0) will be travelling to Ottawa this weekend to take on the Carleton Ravens (4-1-0) on Saturday night with the puck drop set for 7pm.
Last weekend the Gaels were in Thunder Bay with back to back games against Lakehead (0-4-0). Queen's came away with a 3-2 win on Friday night followed by a 4-1 win Saturday night against the Thunder wolves.
The Gaels are currently 4-1-0 during their first five games of the season with 8 points which places them fourth in the OUA East Division. During the team's first five games they have only allowed 10 goals against which are tied for the lowest in the OUA East. Queen's enters this weekend riding a three game winning streak.
CROSS COUNTRYThe No.3 women's cross country and No.6 men's cross country teams will be in Waterloo this weekend taking part in the OUA Championships. The women's team finished the season with 74 points which ranked them third behind Guelph with 100 and Western with 87. The men's team finished the season with 40 points which ranks them sixth behind Guelph with 100, Laval 87, Windsor 80, McMaster 70 and Western 64.
The Gaels cross country teams will hoping to earn a spot in the CIS Championships which will take place on November 14th in Guelph.
ROWINGThe Gaels rowing teams will be competing at the 2015 Canadian University Rowing Championships this weekend from October 31st to November 1st in Antigonish, NS.
Last weekend Queen's competed at the OUA Rowing Championships. The Gaels women's team finished with a silver in the double, 4+ and 8+ and added bronze medals in the lightweight 4+ and lightweight 8+. The men saw just one podium placing taking bronze in the lightweight single.
