The Queen's Gaels are in action on numerous fronts this weekend. Here's a rundown of when and where to catch your Gaels in action at home, or how to follow them on the road.Men's HockeyThis weekend the Gaels (10-12-1) hit the road as they take on Laurentian (12-8-3) on Saturday at 7:45pm in Sudbury. Â Last week,
Brett Foy (Niagra Falls, Ont.) collected the lone tally for the Gaels as the men's hockey team was defeated 4-1 versus the No.8 McGill Redmen Friday night on the road in Montreal. Â On Tuesday night, Queen's pulled out a win as they defeated UOIT 6-4 with three unanswered goals in the third period and a hat-trick from the Gaels top scorer
Darcy Greenaway (Wilton, Ont.). Greenaway is ranked seventh in the CIS netting 15 goals so far this season and his two hat-tricks have him tied at the top of the CIS with most hat-tricks this season. Queen's faced the Laurentian Voyageurs earlier this season but they fell 3-1 as they were unable to capitalize on late scoring opportunities. As the end of the season is close, the Gaels will be fighting for a win this weekend to continue to pick up points as they look to move up in the standings. The Gaels currently sit in sixth place in the OUA East and have a chance to move up to fourth or fifth.
Women's Hockey The No.5 Gaels (13-3-3) hit the road as they play a single match against UOIT (6-12-1) on Thursday at 7:30pm in Oshawa. Last Friday,
Danielle Girard (Sarnia, Ont.) netted the lone goal for Queen's as the women's hockey team was defeated by the No. 7 Guelph Gryphons 3-1. Â On Saturday, the Gaels hosted Brock but neither squad could add the game-winner in regulation or overtime, forcing a shootout. Â Queen's came out on top taking the match 4-3 as
Jessica Wakefield (Lucan, Ont.),
Taryn Pilon (Peterborough, Ont.) and
Fiona Lester (Peterborough, Ont.) all converted on their respective attempts.  Despite not scoring in regulation this past weekend, Pilon tops the CIS rankings with her six power-play goals for the Gaels this season. Queen's faced the UOIT Ridgebacks earlier this season as they topped them in an offensive blowout 6-1. The Gaels are looking to keep pace in the competitive OUA standings. Currently only four points seperate the top five teams while three teams, including Queen's, are tied with 29 points for second place.
Men's Volleyball After an exciting weekend at home that saw Queen's came out strong as they defeated both the Toronto Varsity Blues and the Ryerson Rams in an exciting pair of three set sweeps, This weekend the Gaels (11-5) hit the road as they take on Western (8-8) on Saturday at 2pm and Windsor (6-10) on Sunday at 3pm. Â
Aaron Nusbaum (Aurora, Ont.) lit it up on the attack as he had 10 kills against Toronto. Against the Rams,
Philippe Goyer (Ottawa) showed his expertise as he finished each set for the Gaels with three of his 11 kills in the match. The player of the week for Queen's was
Mike Tomlinson (Stratford, Ont.) who had an outstanding weekend for the Gaels with his total of 20 kills and five unstoppable serving aces. Tomlinson is ranked second in the CIS averaging .50 serving aces per set. Queen's faced both of this weekend opponents earlier this season in defeat but is looking to extend their winning streak in the second last weekend of regular season play. The Gaels currently hold down fourth place in the OUA with 22 points and sit only two points behind both Waterloo and Ryerson.
Women's VolleyballThis weekend the Gaels (11-5) hit the road as they play a single match against the No.6 Ottawa Gee-Gees (12-3) on Saturday at 2pm. Last weekend Queen's fell to the Toronto Varsity Blues on Saturday 3-0 but turned things around on Sunday as they defeated Ryerson, 3-0. Despite the loss against Toronto,
Brett Hagarty (Aurora, Ont.) was the top scorer with 16 kills and one serving ace for the Gaels. Against the Rams,
Shannon Neville (Cambridge, Ont.) showed her offensive skills as she contributed 10 kills and two serving aces for Queen's in their win. As a team the Gaels are ranked fourth in the CIS for averaging 17.95 digs per set and Queen's libero
Becky Wilson is individually ranked fourth in the CIS for averaging 4.73 digs per set. The Gaels faced this weekend's opponents earlier this season in a 3-0 defeat but are looking to get an edge on the Gee-Gees as they sit just ahead of Queen's in the OUA East.Â
Men's BasketballMaking the long trip across the province to southern Ontario this weekend the Gaels (4-8) take on No.5 Windsor (8-4) on Friday at 8pm and Western (8-5) on Saturday at 8pm. Last weekend the Gaels came out with a win over Toronto 82-74 on Friday but fell to the No.3 Ryerson Rams on Saturday 90-65. Against the Varsity Blues,
Tanner Graham (Kingston, Ont.) had an outstanding night for the Gaels grabbing five rebounds and scoring 24 points in their win. Despite the loss to the Rams, Queen's was led by
Patrick Street (Etobicoke, Ont.) and
Greg Faulkner (Kingston, Ont.) who matched each other with 16 points and four rebounds apiece. The Gaels are currently ranked ninth in the CIS averaging a total of 41.8 rebounds per game as a team. Queen's hasn't seen either of this weekend's opponents so far this season but will be looking to pick up a win or two as they hope to nail down a playoff spot.
Women's Basketball This weekend the Gaels (8-4) hit the road as they take on No.1 Windsor (11-1) on Friday at 6pm and Western (4-9) on Saturday at 6pm. Last Friday, the Gaels came out with an overtime win over Toronto 79-77 in an exciting second half comeback. Â
Emily Hazlett (Fredericton, N.B.) led the Gaels with 20 points while
Abby Dixon (North Vancouver) had a standout performance for Queen's scoring all 15 of her points in the second half. On Saturday, the Ryerson Rams ended the Gaels six-game winning streak as they fell 79-71. Once again, Dixon had a strong night with her 17 points and six rebounds and
Jenny Wright (Kingston, Ont.) was also a key player with her 12 points added to the Gaels score. Queen's currently ranks fifth in the CIS averaging 43.2 rebounds per game as a team. The Gaels haven't seen either of this weekend's opponents so far this season but will be looking to pick up points as they close in on Ryerson for the OUA East lead. The Gaels also last played the Lancers in last year's OUA Championship.
Squash This weekend the Gaels head to Waterloo to participate in the OUA Championship from Friday until Sunday.
