Queen's Finishes 3-2 in preseason Regina Invitational

REGINA, Sask. (September 26, 2014) - The women's volleyball team played in the Regina Invitational on the weekend, with games on Friday, Saturday, and Sunday. Queen's finished the tournament 3-2 after their final game, beating Winnipeg, Grant MacEwan and the hosts Regina, while falling to Calgary and Alberta.

Day 3
Queen's vs Alberta

An undefeated University of Alberta team swept the Gaels in three sets to move to 5-0, dropping Queen's to 3-2 in their final game of the tournament. The first set was 25-12, followed by a closer 25-20 second set, with Alberta claiming the match in the third set, 25-9.

At 3-2, Queen's sits tied for second in the tournament along with Manitoba. If Calgary wins their next match, they will also move to 3-2.

Day 2
Queen's vs Regina

The Gaels lost the first set, 15-25 before coming back with three straight set wins, 25-21, 25-22, and 25-22. This puts Queen's at three wins and no losses to lead the tournament along with Alberta. The Regina Cougars are now at 2-1. 

The Gaels will take on Calgary later in the day next followed by a Sunday morning tilt with Alberta.

Queen's suffered their first defeat in Regina, falling to the Calgary Dinos in straight sets 3-0 with set scores 25-17, 25-21 and 25-15. Queen's sits at 3-1 so far in the exhibition tournament and will have a chance to take the top spot in the tournamnet if they can defeat the undefeated team from Alberta on Sunday morning.

Queen's vs Grant MacEwan
Queen's topped MacEwan in Friday night's late match, winning a close one 27-25, 25-23, 19-25, 25-14.

Queen's vs Winnipeg
The Gaels came back from two sets down to beat Winnipeg in Friday evening's match, 24-26, 21-25, 25-21, 25-21, 15-10.

The tournament continues for the Gaels with matches against the hosts, Regina, and Calgary on Saturday, and finishes Sunday against Alberta.
