BOX SCORE TORONTO (February 8, 2014) - The No.5-ranked Queen's women's hockey team (16-3-4) won 4-2 in a Saturday afternoon match-up against the Ryerson Rams (5-18-1) in Toronto.

Morgan McHaffie (Guelph, Ont.) registered two assists in the game and now has 153 in her career which is two shy of the OUA and Gaels record of 155 set by Elizabeth Chiasson who played from 2001 to 2005.

The Gaels out-shot the Rams 40 to 13, converting on two of those attempts early, and the other two in the third period.

Ryerson's Janella Brodett was the first to put a goal on the scoreboard only 29 seconds into the game. At 3:15, Shawna Griffin (Redwood Meadows, Alta.) of the Gaels tied it up on her 13th of the season with assists by Danelle Bishoff (Calgary) and Jessica Wakefield (Lucan, Ont.).

Only seven minutes later, Queen's Alisha Sealey (Elora, Ont.) made the score 2-1 with some help by McHaffie and Emily Gervais (Kamloops, B.C.). Queen's didn't maintain their lead for long with Ryerson's Victoria Arci scoring with just over a minute remaining in the opening period.

The second period finished with zero change in the score, and the Rams and Gaels started off the third period tied at 2-2.

The Gaels finally put the puck to the back of the net in the fourth minute of the third. Clare McKellar (London, Ont.) scored the Gaels third goal of the game off an assist by Bishoff and Griffin. Megan Farrell (Barrie, Ont.) closed things out for Queen's with and empty netter, her first career CIS goal, where McHaffie added her second assist of the game.

Mel Dodd-Moher (Stittsville, Ont.) got the win for Queen's which marked her 50th all-time for the Gaels.

The Gaels currently hold down the number three spot in the OUA but playoff opponents and seeding will come down to the final games of the year. Queen's has the potential to still move up in the standings and will visit Toronto tomorrow who are one point behind Queen's in fourth.
