KINGSTON, Ont. (September 28, 2013) - The undefeated No. 3 Queen's Gaels continued their winning streak with a victory over Toronto in OUA women's rugby action, Saturday. The Queen's Gaels are currently 4-0 on the season.
The game started off slow for both the Gaels and the Varsity Blues with very few scoring opportunities until the 23
rd minute when
Taylor White (Bancroft, Ont.) put up a try for the Gaels, Lauren McEwan (Wasaga Beach, Ont.) kicked a conversion to give the Gaels a 7-0 lead.
Karley Heyman (Harrowsmith, Ont.) scored the second try for the Gaels in the 25
th minute after an incredible 60 yard run. Lauren McEwan kicked the conversion to give the Gaels a 14-0 lead at the end of the first half.
The Varsity Blues came into the second half with a lot of momentum, but they were unable to break through the well-organized Gaels defense.
Natalie Poirier (Carp, Ont.) added another try to the scoreboard for the Gaels, after a 20 yard run and McEwan kicked her third successful conversion of the game.
Bronwyn Corrigan (Waterloo, Ont.) contributed to consecutive tries to the Gaels scoring run, with McEwan kicking another conversion. The game ended with a try from Mel Judges (Ottawa,Ont.) to bring the Gaels to a 38-0 shutout over U of T.
Queen's Gaels will host the Waterloo Warriors next Saturday October 5
th, kickoff is scheduled for 4 p.m.
