Lizzie Gibson from Queen's Women's Rugby was named the PHE '55 Alumnae Award recipient at the 2025-26 Queen's Athletics & Recreation's Colour Awards Wednesday night.
The PHE '55 Alumnae Award is presented to a Varsity Team senior Women's Sports athlete who best displays qualities of competitiveness, leadership, sportsmanship, dedication, humanitarianism, scholastic achievement, and exceptional contributions to their team.
Gibson (Graduate Studies) led the OUA in scoring with an incredible 157 points on the season, more than twice the second leading scorer in the conference. Making the point total more impressive is that it was accomplished in just five games as the Gaels won one of their games by forfeiture of the opposing team.
2025 was Gibson's second highest point total in a single season, behind only 2022 when Gibson finished the year with 176. Gibson is Queen's Women's Rugby's all-time leading scorer with 569 career points, surpassing Gaels legends
Lauren McEwen (219 career points) and Sophie de Goede (208 career points).
"Over her career at Queen's,
Lizzie Gibson established herself as one of the most accomplished players in U SPORTS history," said Queen's Women's Rugby Head Coach
Dan Valley. "A four-time OUA Champion and five-time U SPORTS medalist, she was named OUA Rookie of the Year (2019), a two-time OUA Player of the Year (2022, 2025), and U SPORTS Player of the Year (2022). A five-time All-Canadian and five-time OUA All-Star, Lizzie led the nation in scoring for four consecutive seasons (2022–2025) and graduates as the all-time leading scorer in Queen's Women's Rugby history."
Gibson helped lead Queen's Women's Rugby to a 6-0 record in 2025, their sixth straight season finishing with an undefeated regular season.
Gibson was named OUA Player of the Week on Sept. 8 after scoring 55 points (three tries, 20 conversions) in the Gaels' 160-0 win over the York Lions.
2025 marks Gibson's second year being named the OUA Player of the Year after also winning the award in 2022. Gibson would go on to win the U SPORTS Player of the Year award in 2022 as well, and has also been named the OUA Shiels Division Rookie of the Year, and U SPORTS Rookie of the Year, in 2019.
Along with the major awards Gibson has accumulated, Gibson is also a five-time OUA First Team All-Star (2019, 2022-25) and four-time U SPORTS All-Canadian (2019, 2022-24).
At Queen's, Gibson has won the Alfie Pierce Trophy for Rookie of the Year (2019-20), and Outstanding Performance of the Year (2022-23).
Internationally, Gibson has represented Canada at the FISU World Rugby Sevens University Championship in 2024.
