Queen's got off to a great start taking the first set on their home court against one of the best teams in the country. After York took the first two points Queen's rattled off five straight to build an early lead. The two teams then kept pace with one another wiht no team putting together streaks larger than three. The Gaels hung on thanks to their early advantage to take the first set.

York bounced back however, taking the next two sets 25-17 and 25-14. In the fourth set after trailing at the technical timeout the Gaels rallied. After Brett Hagarty and Niki Slikboer (Seagrave, Ont.) combined for a  block, Shannon Walsh (Perth Road, Ont.) put up back-to-back aces and the Gaels evened the score at 20-20 forcing a York timeout.

York responded after the break with three straight points forcing the Gaels to then take a timeout of their own. Queen's responded in kind with three straight to even the score once again 23-23. After trading points the Gaels came out with a 26-25 lead. The Lions continued to battle back and were able to outlast Queen's taking four of the next five points to secure the win.
