Gaels earn Silver at Husky Dino Tournament

| By:
KINGSTON, Ont. (October 23, 2011) - This past weekend, the Queen's Gaels traveled to the University of Calgary to play in the Husky Dino Volleyball Tournament.

Despite dropping a hard fought first game to the Alberta Golden Bears (16-25, 25-21, 25-21, 20-25, 15-11), the Gaels would dig deep and win three out of five sets in their next matchup against the tournament hosts, the University of Calgary Dinos (25-23, 25-23, 29-31, 24-26, 15-12). All but the final set would be won by a mere two point margin, and this game served as a precursor for the eventual tournament final.

Saturday started off with a game between the Gaels and the Regina Cougars, in which the Gaels won three of four sets to give themselves a 2-1 record, which was enough to send them to the Gold Medal Match for a rematch with the Calgary Dinos.

The Gaels cooled off in the finals, failing to repeat their previous victory over their host. Despite the level of intensity shown in the previous match, the Gaels dropped three straight sets to finish the tournament in second place and with a 2-2 record.

Michael Amoroso of Toronto, and Jackson Dakin of Courtenay, B.C were both named Tournament All-Stars.

The Gaels return to action on Friday when they take on the RMC Paladins to kick off their regular season. Start time is scheduled for 8:00 pm in the Main Gym of the Queen's ARC.
