KINGSTON, Ont. (April 21, 2010) – Four members of the Queen's Gaels men's volleyball team are headed to Gatineau, Que. next month to participate in the National Men's Volleyball Team High Performance Camp.
The camp, which runs from May 10 to 14, will include 48 of Canada's top volleyball players and will also serve as the selection camp for the 2010 FISU/National B team.
The Gaels will be represented by CIS All-Canadian
Joren Zeeman of Cambridge, Ont., OUA All-Star
Michael Amoroso of Toronto, CIS Championship All-Star
Bryan Fautley of Oakville, Ont., and setter
Jackson Dakin of Courtenay, B.C.
"This bodes extremely well for our program,” said Gaels Head Coach
Brenda Willis. "They (national team coaches) were interested in
Niko Rukavina and
Daniel Rosenbaum as well, but due to physical injuries, they have chosen not to participate. All four guys who are going have international potential and I am sure they will represent Queen's very well in this process.”
In 2009, former Gael Adam Simac was named to the FISU/National B team which finished sixth at the 29th World University Games in Belgrade, Serbia. That finish was highlighted by victories over countries such as Great Britain, Ukraine and Turkey.
The camp is being held at the brand new
Gatineau Sports Centre, which will serve as the home for the men's national team for the next four years.
