Three Gaels to compete in OUA All-Star game

| By:
HAMILTON (April 19, 2010) - An exciting 2009-10 season of Ontario University Athletics (OUA) women's basketball will have a star-studded conclusion on Saturday, May 1 in the OUA All-Star Game to take place at the Athletic Complex on the campus of Wilfrid Laurier University as part of the 2010 Ontario Basketball Association (OBA) Ontario Cup.

Gaels guard Brittany Moore of Hannon, Ont., will be one of the stars of the OUA East squad. She finished fourth in the OUA in scoring this past season, averaging 16.2 points per game.

Moore will be joined by fellow teammates Katie Guthrie of Orillia, Ont., and Maddie Soye of Waterloo, Ont. Guthrie, who joined the Gaels this past season after playing for four years with Guelph, tied for 14th overall in OUA scoring after she averaged 12.5 points per game. Soye, the OUA East Joy Bellinger Award recipient, enjoyed her best season as a Gael. The fourth-year forward finished the season averaging 6.4 points per game and 4.1 rebounds per game.

Other members of the OUA East squad include OUA East Player of the Year Hannah Sunley-Paisley of the Ottawa Gee-Gees. She averaged a double-double during the regular season averaging 18.9 points and 10.8 rebounds, and will be a force in the middle for the East squad. Veteran guard Lacey O'Sullivan of Ryerson will be playing her final game as a Ram. She led her division in steals with 60 in 2009-10 and was named East Defensive Player of the Year. East Rookie of the Year Jessica Resch of the Carleton Ravens will also take part, and will see a familiar person on the bench in the form of head coach Taffe Charles who will coach the East squad.

OUA West Player of the Year Amanda Anderson will wear the Western Mustangs uniform for the final time as she headlines the West squad. She led all players in the division with an 18.0 points per game average during the regular season. She will be joined by OUA and Canadian Interuniversity Sport (CIS) Rookie of the Year Jessica Clemençon of the Windsor Lancers. Clemençon led all OUA rookies with 313 points and 146 rebounds, a season which culminated with another OUA championship and a CIS silver medal for the Lancers. Wilfrid Laurier Golden Hawks product Renata Adamczyk, the West Defensive Player of the Year, will also join forces with a West team looking to avenge a 77-64 loss to the East in last year's OUA All-Star Game. The West will be coached by Lancers head coach Chantal Vallée.

The OUA All-Star Game is being played in conjunction with the Under 16 Girls Ontario Basketball Provincial Championships.
