TORONTO (February 5, 2010) – A poor second half saw the Gaels' fall in a lopsided 63-35 loss to the Ryerson Rams in Toronto Saturday evening.
The Gaels scored a mere seven points in the second half to lose the lead that they held at the half.
Mitch Leger of Kingston, Ont., led the team in points and rebounds with 18 and 13 respecitvely for his 14th double-double in the 2009/2010 regular season. Leger is the only player in the OUA who is currently averaging a double-double.
Bernard Burgesson of Port Hawkesbury, N.S., also contributed six rebounds in the loss.
The Gaels' had a strong first quarter gaining an early five point lead. At the end of their first half, their margin had narrowed to 1 with a score of 28-27 in the Gaels' favour.
The third quarter saw the Gaels' get just one basket, as the Rams established a 14 point lead. In the final quarter, the Gaels continue to struggle offensively as Ryerson took a 28 point lead with a final score of 63-35.
Queen's shot just over 21 percent from the field, while only making it to the free throw line three times in the game. Ryerson shot over 42 percent with 19 attempts from the charity stripe. Leading scorer for the Rams was OUA leading scorer Boris Bakovic of Toronto, Ont., who had 24 points and 9 rebounds.
The loss leaves the Gaels with a .500 record (9-9) as they remain in third place in the OUA East Division.
The Gaels next game is Saturday evening against to University of Toronto Varsity Blues in Toronto.
