Queen's Men's Basketball's Jakub Dobiech named OUA Men's Basketball Rookie of the Year

Queen's Men's Basketball's Jakub Dobiech has been named the OUA Men's Basketball Rookie of the Year for the 2025-26 season, the conference announced on Friday.

Dobiech (Arts) finished the year averaging 10.6 points per game, 2.0 rebounds per game, and 1.3 assists per game. The Kingston native also led the OUA in three-point field goal percentage at 46.8 per cent on the year, which was also third in all of U SPORTS.

"As a player who was severely under-recruited coming out of high school, Jakub was motivated to show that he was overlooked," said Queen's Men's Basketball Head Coach Jakub Dobiech. "Jakub established his work ethic and discipline early in his time with us and started impressing the coaching staff as a potential option in our rotation. It is nice to see his hard work pay off with this recognition, and the good thing about Jakub is he won't be satisfied with where he is at and will continue to push to become the best he can be."

Dobiech was also named to the OUA All-Rookie Team and was named Queen's Student-Athlete of the Week in January after scoring 30 points in a game.

Queen's Men's Basketball finished the regular season with a 15-7 record and advanced to the OUA quarterfinals.
