Gaels to play for OUA Bronze medal on Saturday

HAMILTON (February 26, 2010) – The Queen's Gaels lost to the McMaster Marauders 3-1 in the OUA women's volleyball semi-final on Friday in Hamilton.

The Gaels fell behind 2-0 after losing the opening two sets by the score of 15-25 and 21-25. In the third set, the Gaels were able to control McMaster and won easily at 25-18. However, in the deciding set, with the lead sitting at 14-11 in favour of the Maruaders, the Gaels couldn't keep pace falling 25-13 sending the Gaels to the bronze medal match on Saturday.

Colleen Ogilvie of Calgary and Katie Matthews of Aurora, Ont., each had 11 points in the loss for the Gaels. Ogilvie tallied seven kills and two aces while Matthews had eight kills. Matthews also had five digs. # Natalie Gray# of Oshawa, Ont. finished with nine points and 15 digs while Julie Lockwood of Calgary registered 20 assists.

Defensively, Becky Billings of Ottawa had a game-high 17 digs in the OUA semifinal game.

Shannon McRobert of Whitby, Ont. led McMaster's scoring effort with 13 points including eight kills. Kaila Janssen of Oshawa, Ont., and Larissa Puhach of Burlington, Ont., also broke the double digit mark with 10 points each.

At 8:00pm tonight, Toronto and Western will face off with the winner advancing to play McMaster and the loser meeting Queen's in the bronze medal game.

The bronze medal game is scheduled for 4:00pm on Saturday and will be broadcast live on SSN Canada at www.ssncanada.ca. The Gaels will be looking to equal their best performance since the 2004 season where they claimed a bronze.
