O’Donnell one of six Gaels named OUA All-Stars

| By:
HAMILTON (November 9, 2010) – Offensive lineman Matthew O'Donnell of Kingston, Ont., leads a group of six Queen's Gaels who were named OUA Football All-Stars on Tuesday.

O'Donnell was lone Gael named to the OUA first team while Dan Bederman (OL) of Toronto, Devan Sheahan (WR) of Kingston, Ont., Jimmy Therrien (RB) of Montreal, Dan Village (K) of Abbotsford, B.C., and Frank Pankewich (DL) of Thunder Bay, Ont. were named to the OUA second team.

O'Donnell, a product of Holy Cross Secondary School, was one of the top linemen in the OUA this season protecting quarterback Justin Chapdelaine (Abbotsford, B.C). His 6'10, 329lbs frame makes him one of the most imposing tackles in the CIS. He is currently ranked sixth on the CFL prospect list for the 2010 Canadian Draft, which is upcoming in May. This is his second time being named an OUA All-Star with his first coming last season.

Bederman picks up his third consecutive all-star selection with his first two coming as first team selections in 2008 and 2009. In his fifth-season with the Gaels he acted as the offensive captain for Queen's this season.

Sheahan, the son of Head Coach Pat Sheahan, closes his five-year career picking up his first ever selection to an OUA All-Star team. He finished the 2009 season with 559-yards in eight games scoring three touchdowns. He ranked fifth in the nation with 49 receptions.

Therrien finished the 2009 season rushing for 515 yards in seven games. He averaged 73.6 yards per game scoring three touchdowns. His 515 yards ranked him seventh in the OUA and 15th in the CIS. His 109 carries this season earned him eighth place amoung the CIS leaders and his first OUA All-Star selection.

Village earned his third selection to an OUA All-Star squad having been named in 2008 and 2009. He broke the Queen's school record for points in a season with 271 and was 11 for 13 in field goals this year. His field goal % was the fifth best in the CIS.

Queen's only defensive All-Star was Pankewich.  He collected his first selection to an OUA All-Star squad by recording 29 tackles and six sacks this season. He also recorded one forced fumble in six games.

OUA all-stars were selected by the nine football head coaches across OUA. The major OUA football award winners will be honoured in Hamilton, Ont. on Thursday, Nov. 11 at 11:30 a.m.
