Gaels drop exhibition opener 75-51 to Laval

KINGSTON, Ont. (October 2, 2010) – Queen's Timothy Boyle of Belleville, Ont., scored 17 points in a 75-51 CIS basketball exhibition loss to the Laval Rouge et Or on Saturday evening in Kingston.

Laval trailed Queen's by two points heading into the half, but used a 27 point explosion in the third quarter to pull away from the Gaels. Queen's held with Laval in the first quarter with the score tied 17-17.

Boyle was seven-of-nine from the floor converting two three pointers. He also logged seven defensive rebounds in the loss. Dan Bannister of Newmarket, Ont., also broke into double digits with 14 points in 37 minutes of play. Bernard Burgesson of Port Hawkesbury, NS., led the Gaels in rebounds with eight.

Laval had four players break into double digits and were led by Ryan Hugues of Montreal who scored 17. Jerome Turcotte-Routhier of Quebec tallied 13 points, while Etienne Labrecque of Jonquiere, Que., scored 11 and Jean-Francois Beaulieu of Chicoutimi, Que., tallied 10.

Queen's shot 32.2% from the floor while Laval was 41.2%.

The Gaels will return to action next Friday, October 6 when they take on Bishop Gaiters at home in the Main Gym of the Athletics and Recreation Centre.
