KINGSTON, Ont. (October 16, 2010) – The Brandon Bobcats (1-1) swept the host Queen's Gaels (0-2) in the fourth game of the Queen's men's volleyball invitational on Saturday at the Athletics & Recreation Centre at Queen's University.
Brandon topped the Gaels with set scores of 25-16, 25-10 and 25-22.
Paul Sanderson (Melbourne, Australia), who was last year's CIS player of the year, had 15 kills in the game on 24 attacks. He also contributed six digs in the win. Jon Kevin also broke double digits in kills with 11. Setter Kyle Dellezay had 34 assists.
Queen's was led by
Joren Zeeman of Cambridge, Ont., who tallied 16 kills and four digs.
Michael Amoroso of Toronto tallied seven kills while
Alex Oneid recorded a game high eight digs in the loss. Setter
Jackson Dakin had 29 assists.
Trinity Western wins battle against Western
The Trinity Western Spartans (2-0) had three players reach double digits in kills as they edged the Western Mustangs (1-1) 3-2 during the second day of the 24thannual Queen's men's volleyball invitational.
Set scores were 25-21, 25-18, 23-25, 23-25 and 15-12 in favour of Trinity Western.
Josh Doorneball of Edmonton, Dan Jansen Van Doorn of Langley, B.C. and Rudy Verheoff of Calgary each registered double digits in scoring. Doorneball led the team with 14 kills while Verheoff had 13 and Jansen Van Doorn had 12. Setter Ben Ball of Abbotsford, B.C., had busy night recording 56 assists. Josh Wiebe, also of Abbotsford, B.C., had 10 digs.
Western's Matt Poulin of Winnipeg had a game high 15 kills while Matt Waite of St. Thomas, Ont., posted 13. Poulin also recorded five digs in the loss. Matthew Gibson of Oshawa, Ont., tallied 47 assists.
Brandon was coming off a 3-2 loss to the Western Mustangs, while Queen's lost to Trinity Western 3-2 in Friday's results.
Tomorrow, Trintiy Western will face Brandon at 1:00pm, while Western will battle host Queen's in the final game of the invitational tournament at 3:00pm.
