LONDON, Ont. (October 3, 2009) – With first place on the line, the Queen's Gaels edged the Western Mustangs 13-12 in OUA men's rugby action on Saturday.
Heading into the game, both Queen's and Western were undefeated at 4-0 with Queen's holding a slight edge in points. The 13-12 victory keeps Queen's (5-0) undefeated season intact and they now hold a five-point advantage over Western (4-1) in the OUA standings with three-regular season games remaining.
Tim Richardson of Vancouver scored the lone Queen's try, while
Ryan Kruyne of Dunrobin, Ont., had a convert and a pair of penalty goals for eight points in the one-point Gaels victory.
Tomorrow the Gaels will turn their attention to a cause close to their heart as they participate in the in the CIBC Run for the Cure. Men's rugby has been involved with the event for over 10-years raising almost $100,000 during that period for a future without breast cancer. Queen's success in the program earned them the honour of being the focus of a national advertising campaign which has seen posters and newspaper advertising across the country.
On Friday, Queen's will host the Guelph Gryphons in men's rugby action. Kickoff is scheduled for 1:00pm on Kingston Field.
