Kingston, Ont. (October 19, 2008) - Women's field hockey finally came home, as they Gaels hosted the final round robin regular season tournament on the newly opened Tindall Field on campus at Queen's University.

This is was the first time Queen's hosted an event since 2003 and was welcomed by many fans. Queen's however could not come up with a victory losing all three match-ups.

On Saturday the Gaels fell 4-0 to the Guelph and 2-0 to Waterloo. The Gaels were hopeful to finish the season on a positive note Sunday, but fell 2-0 to the Toronto Varsity Blues.

The losses did not stop the team from having a memorable time at home. "It was a different atmosphere, it was exciting and a great to have the fans on our side," said third-year player Emily Newton of Vancouver, B.C.

Although the Gaels end the season missing the playoffs fir the first time in over 10 seasons they hold their head high and look forward to next season.

"The girls were fantastic this season, said rookie head coach Angela Meggs. "We went through a lot this season, and we battled each game. The girls showed a lot of growth and maturity."

The Gaels finished the season with a 2-9-3 record which put them in sixth place. This is the first time Queen's has missed the post-season since 1997.
