Six Queen’s Football alumni competing in Friday’s CFL pre-season game between Calgary Stampeders and Edmonton Elks

Friday's CFL pre-season meeting between the Calgary Stampeders and Edmonton Elks in Edmonton, Alta. will have a strong representation of Tricolour as six Queen's Football alumni will be suited up in the game.

The visiting Stampeders will have two former Queen's Football players donning the red and white in defensive end Steven Kpehe and defensive back Ashton Miller-Melancon. and the host Elks will have four players, who once wore the Tricolour, now donning the Green and Gold in defensive linemen Silas Hubert and Darien Newell, and linebackers Olivier Muembi and Justin Pace.

Pace (Economics) and Kpehe (Kinesiology) were both selected in the CFL Canadian Draft earlier this year, with Pace drafted in the fourth round, 35th overall, by the Elks, and Kpehe drafted in the seventh round, 62nd overall, by the Stampeders.

Newell (Philosophy), Hubert (Environmental Studies), and Miller-Melancon (Arts & Science) were all selected in the 2025 CFL Draft, with Newell drafted in the second round, tenth overall, pick by Edmonton, Hubert drafted in the fourth round, 31st overall, by Edmonton, and Miller-Melancon drafted in the eighth round, 65th overall, by Calgary.

Muembi (History) was selected in the 2024 CFL Draft, in the third round, 21st overall, by the Elks.

Pace was named an OUA Second Team All-Star this past season after leading Queen's Football and finishing third in the conference in tackles per game at 6.4. In five games for Queen's Football, Pace recorded 32 tackles (24 solo, 16 assisted) and 4.5 tackles for a loss.

Kpehe finished with 14 tackles (10 solo, eight assisted) and three sacks in the regular season, while adding another 5.5 tackles (two solo, seven assisted) and a sack in the postseason in 2025.

Hubert appeared in all 18 games for the Elks in his rookie season, registering two defensive tackles and 12 special teams tackles.

Miller-Melancon returned to Queen's after being drafted, and was named the Jenkins Trophy recipient as Queen's Varsity Teams Men's Sports Athlete of the Year. Miller-Melancon was named an OUA First Team All-Star in 2025 after finishing tied for second on Queen's Football and tied for third in the conference in interceptions with three, while adding 25 tackles (20 solo, 10 assisted).

Muembi did not suit up in any games for Edmonton last season but logged one tackle and six special teams tackles for the Elks in 2024. In Muembi's last season with Queen's, he registered 36 tackles (27 solo, nine combined) in the regular season, which tied for the team lead and was 13th in the OUA. Muembi also added one sack and 3.5 tackles for a loss in 2023.

Newell did not play last season.
