Queen’s Football named Jim Tait Trophy recipient as Varsity Team of the Year

Queen's Football was named the Jim Tait Trophy recipient as the Varsity Team of the Year for the 2025-26 season at the Queen's Athletics & Recreation Colour Awards banquet Wednesday night.

The Jim Tait Trophy is presented annually to the top performing Varsity Team. This award recognizes the team's competitive success, community involvement and other attributes which have brought the most honour and recognition to Queen's.

Queen's Football captured the 117th Yates Cup in 2025, the program's first Yates Cup victory in 16 years.

Queen's Football finished the season with two U SPORTS All-Canadians and 12 OUA All-Stars.

Queen's Football was also very active off the field, participating in a number of events including Kingston Walk for Wellness, Glutton Games Fundraiser at Tommy's Restaurant, the annual Tackle Hunger Food Drive, which raised more than 1,000 pounds of food, Good Times Dinner volunteers, and multiple school visits.

Queen's Football also volunteered on residence move in day, at local food banks, and were active in supporting fellow Queen's Varsity Sports programs.

"This was a season filled with adversity and grit. We are very proud of how the players were able to stick together in one of the closest brotherhoods we have been a part of," said Queen's Football Head Coach Steve Snyder. "After battling through adversity in the regular season, we were able to secure a home playoff game. We then travelled on the road for two more OUA playoff games at Windsor and Laurier and with a terrific defensive first half and strong offensive second half, we were able to win our first Yates Cup since 2009 over the No. 1 ranked team in the country.

"It was an outstanding team effort and the culmination of grit from the team, especially the seniors who were competing in their third Yates Cup in five years. We then took to the road again at Saskatchewan for the Mitchell Bowl. This was an outstanding team filled with all-stars, leaders, future hall of famers, academic all-Canadians and great people!"
